CR140 vs CR170

Featured Replies

Generally speaking it seems the CR170 is the most selected engine by owners on here, but do people think that will continue now the CR140 can be ordered, bearing in mind the following:

CR140 CR170

Combi Elegance £23,870 £24,795

Max speed 127 135

0-62 10.2s 8.9s

CO2 145 153

mpg:

Urban 40.9 36.7

Extra urban 60.1 57.6

Combined 51.4 47.9

Torque 320 350

Sorry for the formatting - is there a way to make the above a clear table? Hopefully people can work it out - Narrative, figure for CR140, figure for CR170.

Seems to me the additional purchase cost of £925, and combined fuel consumption some 7% worse, is quite a price to pay for the performance difference which may not be apparent in the real world of 70mph speed limits. Are Superb owners really that concerned about the 0-62 time?

What do others think?

My CR140 is on order, just wondering what sways people choosing the CR170 now? (I pay for my own fuel...).

Meering

Ordered a 140 company car, swayed by tax/ emissions implications and leasing budget which was £38 a month less for the 140

Who expects to save money with more power in the first place? And those 900 pounds are a bargain.

The 170cr was my choice due to the 140pd being the alternative at time of ordering. The superior refinement of the common rail engine was my first priority, although, now that I am accustomed to the power delivery I would think that a 140cr would possibly be a little sluggish by comparison. Those extra 30 ponies ( I previously drove a 140pd Octy) make the overall package just so much better. Those of you who buy a Superb 140cr better not get a 170cr courtesy car when yours is in for a service, (if only)!! or you will wish you parted with the extra £900 in the first place!!

One other point about me is that my car doesn't give me my road excitement - it's for transporting me, my family and belongings. I commute around 100 miles a day, year round, on my motorbike - and that has 170bhp. No car will ever match it for acceleration so the difference between 10.2s and 8.9s isn't important to me. The bike will do that in around 3 seconds if I want it to, and it's good for 100 in 2nd gear!

So I don't think I'll miss what I haven't got by going for the CR140.

I have a Hayabusa in the garage .... I know what you mean,, .There is no such thing as a fast car in my opinion,, but they might as well be a "little fun!!"

The difference in torque produced by the two engines is not that great and that's what you tend to use in an turbo diesel.

Personally I wish they made a CR270. I'd buy one in an instant as I found the CR170 I test drove on Monday really slow for a 2.0 litre diesel.

Got to admit, if the 3L diesel from Audi came in the superb, it would have been my 1st choice - instead, the 2L 170 with 4x4 will have to suffice. :giggle:

Our's is being "born" next week!

Very easy to remap to 220 bhp. :D

Really? Everything I've seen on the VAG 2.0 CR TDI shows it making much more than 170PS with the stock map, usually nearer to 190PS and very little more after a remap.

I'd still rather have the 4.2 TDI and a remap from 321PS to 385PS with 770Nm.
