Fabia Elegance faults

Featured Replies

Hi, i'm new to the site and to Skoda's. I have bought a W-reg 1.4 16v Elegance.

I've had the car a few weeks now and have had a couple of issues. The electric windows one touch doesn't work either side and the rear drivers side window only goes down a bit at a time, meaning to fully open or close you need to press the button and let go a good 4 or 5 times. Any ideas what this could be?

Also yesterday the power steering warning light came on, reading posts on here it is common (but can't see anyone having the same problem exactly), when i got home i checked the fluid level which was very low (light hadn't been on to tell me this) so i topped it up but the fault persists. The power steering is working a little but heavy and if i try to turn the wheel quickly while stationary it is as if there is no power steering at all.

Help would really be appreciated

RE windows, with the windows in the up position, try holding the switch in the up position for a few seconds for each window until you hear a clicking noise from the windows, that should fix it unless there's an issue with the mechanism. Not sure if the rears have the auto feature or not though.

Steering could be being caused by the battery, or the sensor could be playing up. Battery is easiest to check, and cheaper.

I had the same problems with my windows. You'll find it a fault on the switch which will only get worse over time. I've also had the same problem with my SEAT Leon and VW Sharan as they also use the same switch's. Its a typical VAG problem which has been present for well over 14 years now.

I take it your drivers side front switch panel also works the electric rear windows ?

If so. It will cost you about £36 inc VAT for the drivers side window switch. If you dont have rear electric windows the switch will cost you around £25 inc VAT.

I've not picked mine up yet as I'm waiting for the switch's for the other doors to arrive as well (£75 inc VAT for all 4 door switch panels) but once I've got them I can post the part numbers if you need them :)

Both the switch in the back of the car and the one in the front cause the window to start/stop, would this be the same fault?

The power steering seem slightly better, if i turn the wheel slow it works fine, but when i try to turn quick the power steering doesn't keep up, light is still on also.

Yeah it will probably be the same fault on the window switch's. Front will be £36 inc vat and the rear £17 inc vat. Easy to change as well.

As for the power steering. If your getting a delay between turning the steering wheel and the cars wheels moving it might be the steering rack or the power steering pump (if its seperate from the rack). Not an easy job and a PITA to do. New power steering rack will be a 3 figure sum before fitting. Not sure about the cost of the pump as I've never needed to do one on a car yet.

Thanks for the info on this guys. Turned out that the powersteering pump and the wheel angle sensor had gone. It stumped the first garage who tried 3 different pumps on it to no effect but the second garage sorted it by doing both. I was without the car for a over a week. Glad it was under warranty, cost them £280 plus labour apparently.

Passenger side electric window stopped working yesterday, is this the switch again? Passenger side electric mirror will not work, when i try to select it on the switch it just continues to operate the drivers side only (switch?). Also another new fault is the alarm goes off the odd random time, one last one...... when the drivers side door is opened the car doesn't recognise it, ie no interior light comes on and the doors lock themselves after a while, even with the door open. Works fine on the other doors, can't find the switch for this.

Had the car for a matter of weeks and beginning to wish i'd never seen it.

Any help please?

Re the drivers door, I have the same problem. I think its the convenience unit (from what I've read about similar issues anyway). Problem is, apparently its not easy/cheap to sort so I live with it. My problem is open door, sit in car, door locks alarm goes off as it didn't recognise the door had been opened. Problem solved for me by putting the key in the ignition. Also I find it to be fine in summer, but not in winter (possible water issue in the door causing the issue?)

RE the mirror, are you holding the switch down as I recall it automatically sits both unless you hold it in the lower position to tweak the passenger side

---Edit--

Forgot to mention, mine was plagued with all the niggles but if you spend time reading this forum, searching for the issues you have you'll find most are pin-pointed (as is the ones you've had already) and therefore the cost to fix them is cheaper as you know the issue, or is self do-able thanks to guides.
