1.9TDi PD100 Cambelt Replacement Schedule

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Here's the script...my car has done 37,000 miles and is coming up on 5 years old.

Does it need the cambelt doing?

I've heard it needs doing at 60,000 miles, 4 years, 40,000 miles, 5 years, whenever there's a full moon...oh, and that the waterpump needs doing, and that it doesn't need doing :dull: I haven't got access to the service schedule just now.

Oh, and it was serviced last June, 8,000 miles ago.

Anybody got a definitive answer? I'd only use genuine parts.

Many thanks if you can clear this up

Andrew :)

Skoda recommends the Cambelt and tensioners have to be replaced at 60K miles or every 4 years, whichever comes first. The water pump does not have to be replaced, but it is prone to fail, especially OEM plastic ones. The Cambelt has to be removed to replace the pump, so it is a good thing to replace it at the same time, preferably one with a metal impeller.

So I'd suggest at your next annual service in June, you have your Cambelt and water pump changed.

Thanks Jim, that makes sense.

Do Skoda now supply water pumps with metal impellers?

No OEM are plastic, you go independant for the service cam belt and metal water pump impeller change, about £60 cheaper for better quality IMHO

My PD105 saw 92k before its first cambelt service, the car is only 5yrs old now with 143k on the clocks.

I will be having mine done in another 9k after being on the car for 60k.

I did take the cover off and have a look last autumn, and the belt looked like new!

But its still going to be cheaper to have everything done, than a new engine.

+1 for getting the water pump changed at the same time - my car's water pump wasn't and then failed less than a year after the cambelt service. ££££ :'(

I got the cambelt, water pump and a brake fluid change last Monday for £326
