Octavia II towing electrics wiring ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just fitted a tow bar and Skoda wiring kit to my new Octavia II, have not had it coded in yet but noticed only one of the side/brake lights works on the trailer lights? There is no voltage on the corresponding towing socket pin? The indicators work fine.

Is this normal and will be sorted out once the towing electrics module is coded in or have I made a mistake with the wiring somewhere (have double checked the fuse/control box wiring). All the lights work on the car as normal!

Thanks

Owen

Sorry to say but I think you have either made a wiring error, have a bad connection somewhere or the towbar electics relay box (can't remember what they are called) is faulty.

Does it have a 7 way bypass fitted?

Is it double or single electrics fitted?

And be careful you don't blow any elecs out...

What year is it?

Check the bulbs on your light board!.

Before coding all my lights worked fine, but I did have to clean a lot of bulb contacts/swap bulbs/wiggle bulbs to check!

Also, once I was down to only one bulb not working it wasn't being picked up by the bulb failure system any more as the warning light went out on the dash.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replys,

I have fitted the Standard skoda single electrics, was going to fit the split charging but ran out of time.

I have the single 13 pin socket with a 7 pin converter to my bike trailer, i have checked the output form the 13 pin connector and no voltage out of the corrct pin to the side light that is not working.

My car was made in June 07 and the only concern i had when wiring it up was i used the fuse 19 position as per the Wesfalla instructions, I must admit i did not check there was any volts on the black wire in the fuse box, i know the pre 2007 wiring calls for the use of fuse 4, maybe this is where i have gone wrong(black/blue wire).

Thanks

Hi All,

Thank you for all your help, i have now found the problem after checking all the wiring in the car and Trailer board then cleaning all the bulb contacts in the trailer lights it turned out to be the 13 to 7 pin adapter i was using. Several of the pins were sloppy in the 13 pin adapter and as i was pulling the cord round so i could see the trailer board it would stop the side and brake light working on one side.

So many thanks for all your comments, I can now enjoy the pleasures of my new Skoda Octavia.

Owen
