Removing 2006 Fabia Engine Undertray to reconnect washer pipe

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I need to reconnect my rear washer pipe in the engine bay, as it's popped off and is spraying down there when i use the rear washer. It had popped off near the wheel arch - I've fixed that one, and now its popped off down in the engine bay!

I'm a real novice so need some simple tips please...

I've got some car ramps, and I was just wondering if there's anything I should know about removing the engine undertray? Is it simple enough?

I imagine it will have some bolts to undo and some screw thread clips to connect it to the wheel arch lining?

Is there anything I should know or be wary of when removing it? Any special tools? Any wires to be careful of? etc..

Many thanks

Ps. Sorry to ask such a stupid question, just dont wanna break anything!

You'll need a TORX bit/driver to undo the bolts holding the undertray on. About 8 in total IIRC

Thanks Jonny5ive for the fast respone.

Is that all that holds it on?

You can reconnect it from the top

I was going to check for a suspected broken wire to the alternator at the same time, thinking 2 birds 1 stone.

On the side, can you really fit your arm down in the engine bay to reconnect the rear washer pipe?? For future reference, where would I be looking to poke my hand? I read about removing the top of the air manifold to make it easier but it still seems too far down?

There is a Side On shot of the undertray in THIS guide.

Check, the connection of the rear wash pipe near the bulkhead in the engine bay from the top first.

If it is that connection that has popped off you can re-connect it from the top as BigW says.

Details of all the known places that this pipe pops off are in HERE

My connection in the bulkhead became disconnected when i knobbled the pipes with the airbox as i removed it to fetch a dropped screw (knothing but professional here! :giggle: )

i managed to reconnect it by wiggling my hands down into the engine bay and popping the pipes back together - that said but i do have small hands and skinny arms!

I don't suppose anyone has a photo of where I should be looking for the disconnected washer pipes near the bulkhead? I can't seem to see where I should be poking my hand!

Easy way to see where the water is coming from is to get a friend to pull the stalk while you're under the bonnet!

However no image but if you take off the plastic engine cover the washer pipe runs through the bulkhead to the right of the engine and to the left of the air box - pretty much in the middle of the gap

Connection is in the big black hole to the right of the engine and left of the airbox and above where the air intake hose runs!

Thanks PastyBoy.

I've found the rear washer pipe with the aid of your posts and image. It was separted so I've popped it back together and felt it click.

Unfortunately the connection still seems to leak when the rear washer is activted. Although the rear washer is actually working now (after many weeks!).

Here's a photo of the leaking connection:

Has anyone got any ideas how to stop it leaking?

I'm pretty sure its fully connected and I can't see/feel any split. Does it need replacing?

Thanks in advance.

It actually takes a bit of force to get it together properly, separate the 2 connections and re-assemble them, when they go together properly you should hear a good positive click.

I pushed it as hard as I could and it did seem to click - it was completely separated when I found it. From the image I've posted, does it appear not to be connected properly?

Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,

I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting it again, and definitely felt it click. However, water is still escaping from the connector when I use the rear washer.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like there may be a crack in the connector, I would just snip the connectors off and join the pipe with a section of pipe and a couple of cable ties.
