Octavia FL VRS - TSI - engine characteristics

Featured Replies

First topic so please bear with me.

In another topic on the forum there has been questions as to whether the petrol VRS now (the FL version) has the VW EA888 engine which I think is now fairly well established. This engine is quite different in construct to the previous version (chain drive camshafts being most notable). Both engines produce 147 Kw ie 197 bhp/ 200 ps but the power and torque curves are different.

TSI engine produces a little more torque lower in the rev range but appears to start the withdrawl of torque a little sooner too. I have interpolated some graphs I have seen on the engine (not the actual engine code but figures for 1700 rpm to 6000 rpm match EU version) and invite input of further technical data etc on this issue to try and establish optimum gear change points and the like. Table from data and graph below:-

rpm, Torque(Nm), Power(Kw), Power(bhp)

1000, 170, 18, 24

1350, 225, 34, 45

1700, 280, 50, 67

2000, 280, 59, 79

3000, 280, 88, 118

4000, 280, 117, 157

5000, 280, 147, 197

6000, 233, 147, 197

6250, 220, 144, 193

6500, 208, 142, 190

views, further data welcome.

Its a nice engine.

Its a nice engine.

I hope to have delivery of my new vRS in around 5 weeks and very exciting that in fact it would seem then that the engine is different . I cant understand why the latest brochure does not highlight this albeit small tech change to the the engine and my dealer also seemed to think that the petrol engine was exactly the same as in my 56 plate model!

Cheers.

lol-our 2010 biuld petrol VRS is engine code is CCZA which, from lots of the info on the Briskoda forum and external sources, seems to equate to the EA888 engine which is designated TSI and this also appears on the engine cover. The dip stick is on the LH side of the engine bay rather than at the front as on EA113 - TFSI engines.

I can only think that either Skoda UK want to make sure they clear down any TFSI left, which I would have thought there would be none anyway or they are incompetent as others have suggested. When we order our car back in November Patrick Sword at Savilles Garage Kiddeminster put TSI on the paperwork but then he is much more on the ball than some Skoda dealers/SUK people I have dealt with in the last 15 years with Skoda queries.

Any road up, happy it is the TSI as this engine is more torquey, lower emissions and has the newer Engine Management Unit which has more scope for both VAG and non-VAG software changes.

Pretty sure your new car will have TSI mines over 6 months old and has it.

Its a great engine standard, fantastic when remapped!
