Media Interface not standard factory fit?

Featured Replies

Got my new Greenline yesterday. Loving it so far except for one thing: I was expecting it to come with the MDI interface as the brochure from the dealer seemed to indicate that it was standard. Instead it just has the AUX stereo port in the handrest and an ugly white plastic cap where the MDI interface should be. There arent any MDI input options on the Swing radio either. I asked the dealer about this and he said that they arent even standard on the Ambition or Elegance in Ireland and that it was the same brochure used in the U.K. but there is a disclaimer on the back saying fit may vary.

Did anyone get the MDI interface as a standard bit of kit? I may have read the spec wrong, just wondering.

When i was ordering mine i knew to ask for it, Its costing 120 for the IPOD Version from the factory, appearantly a nightmare to retrofit after delivery, A mate of mine just got stung with the same too, Bought an OCTY Elegance from the factory with Bolero stereo which he was told by the salkes guy he could plug his IPOD into, He meant just through the AUX Port, Its pretty useless if you ask me if you are an ipod user, U want the functionality to skip tracks etc

The ugly white plastic cap is a light, put your lights on, and it will come on too.

doh!

The MDI can be retrofitted, but you must have the Bolero or Columbus headunit (the ones with touch screens). The retrofit kit goes into the glovebox rather than the centre console.

Why can`t you retro-fit that MDI into a car with SWING-radio, only bolero or columbus ? That would seem strange because MDI is available to all Superb-radios when yoyu order that from the factory. And those wirings are pretty much the same in all radios.... :o

Only the columbus and bolero have the required software to support the mdi, and navigation is achieved using the touch screen in a windows explorer style interface. The MDI is far more than a simple ipod interface, you can connect usb hdd's, usb memory sticks and ipods of course. The swing does not have the required software to drive the mdi interface.

If that's the case, why does my Swing Radio instruction manual refer to the connection of devices through the MDI interface on pages 9 & 10?

Then why is that MDI available as an option, because the swing-radio is what it is.....at least in our new octavia we have swing with MDI. At least in this country`s price list MDI is an option, and there is no mentioning that bolero or columbus would be needed... :o

Do they put some kind of special program into those swings that are ordered with MDI if retro-fit is not possible ?

i thought the Swing could take an MDI, You can still browse the contents on the media device on the Swing the same way you browse MP3 CD's on the swing
