06 VRs TFSi Octavia Hatch Rear Camber Settings

Featured Replies

Following on from some other threads i've read and/or posted on, I gather there are some revised rear camber settings to eliminate problems some people experience?

What are they, as I might go and get my alignment checked and sorted before I wear my tyres into the 'wrong' settings

Cheers

Matt

On an 06 it would have left the factory with 1.45 degrees.

These were revised to 1.25 degrees for tyre wear and noise problems. :)

Thanks guys :-)

If I were you, I would take it straight down to my local friendly tyre centre with 4 wheel alighnement tech and have it all set up!

Trust me, I have gone through 4 sets of tyres now and trying to argue with any outfit within the VAG group is quite frankly pointless!.....

I had it laser aligned when i had the tyres in the week but i will certainly be having a look at what they set the rear camber at and will change to 1.25 if its not already!

The revised rear camber setting is 1°20’ ± 0°30’ (degrees and minutes), I don't know where 1.25 has come from.

Because when I showed this to the guy at Micheldever Tyres the guy said they didn't use degrees and minutes anymore.

He then showed me the book settings for a Mk2 Octy vRS which was 1.45 degrees and set my car to 1.25 degrees as per the Skoda bulletin.

That's odd because 1°20’ (degrees and minutes) is 1.333 in decimal degrees.

Right, took it to Chemix in Stourbridge West Mids, had the allignment checked, they already knew the new revised settings. He also complimented my choice of tyre, Potenza RE050a. He said with the b5 chassis as it runs relitively high amounts of neg camber then an asymetric tyre is much better and will give much better wear characteristics. Also I notice they are a lot quieter than the REO50 I replaced and very grippy. The car drives like a dream now, nill vibration and i'm loving it

Hmm, this has got me thinking. I noticed a steady increase in road noise from the rear since buying Uniroyal Rainsport 2s last October. I thought the original Bridgestones were a bit noisy but these were getting ridiculous!

It was getting so bad that I considered it was my rear bearings failing instead of the tyres.

Then I had an unrepairable front puncture and since the fronts were 75% worn I decided to get a new pair instead of replace the one tyre.

I always fit new tyres on the rear so when the Rainsports were removed from the back I noticed very strange wear on them.

Now I know what feathered tread blocks look like, but this was something else! In side view each tread block was worn into a wedge shape, I would guess that the difference in height front to back of each block on the outer quarters of the tyres was at least 1.5mm.

When these were fitted to the front, my god, what a racket. It now sounds like the front bearings have actually failed it's that bad!

In contrast, the Michelin PS3s that are now on the back are silent!

When the Uniroyals were fitted last October the alignment was fully checked and was spot on, but spot on to what I now ask, new or old specification??

Me thinks I need to re-visit the garage and get it checked before I ruin the PS3s.
