Indecision - Gobi or Onyx Leather ?

Featured Replies

No I still never found one but I took the plunge and ordered it in Candy White with the Gobi. Anyway a lot of new BMW's have white with a similar leather interior so what the hell. I will be spending most of the time in it so its only me that it matters for. If you like the two as much as I do then as said in this post, dont worry bout what others say, just do it. Or you could wait until mine comes and I will post the pics (around Sept/Oct).

I've found one and it's got a velux roof

Damn good spot mr plumber

Ahh she looks lovely in white she does.....sigh

Thanks for the info and images. Will probably play safe and go with the Onxy.

Don't forget the Gobi Sand is more of a mushroom colour, and definitely a shade darker than most beige leather such as the cream in our old Beetle or the Barley in my XF. It doesn't show the dirt as much as either of these two although a quick wipe over every couple of months with some Meguiars Leather Wipes will keep it in good condition. Personally I think it will go really well with a white exterior - better than a "normal" beige leather - and much better than the ubiquitous and, to my mind, oppressive black.

Not the contrast with the door pillar trim. And compare with the much paler Barley in the XF.

Real dilemma approacheth - I really really like the Candy White Yeti over the other colours (Aerofurbs just looks so coool), but I also really love the Gobi leather interior and there the two dont mix, so do I compromise on the exterior look and choose another colour which goes with the inside ? or choose the Onyx leather and compromise on the exterior colour ?

Just wondering for those who do have Gobi leather, what is it like after it has had a bit of wear and tear and dirt on it ? Also does the whole interior trim ie sills etc have a lighter colour so not to clash with the Gobi seat colour as I noticed in one pic nice Gobi seats but with the door open they were sitting on dark bases ??

Sighh !!.....its a lot of money to spend on a car and get it wrong !

Hello!

I found this post, and I wondered what you choosed? I have the exact thinking about white exterior and beige full-leather interior. But haven´t seen any picture of it? I have until week 7 to deside about the color. Right now I have chosen the cappucino beige, but want to change.. So, how did you choose? =)

Best regards Erik

White exterior and Gobi interior is one of the combinations the Yeti brochure states as only "good". You generally don't get that combination from many manufacturers but it is possible to order it that way. It is a personal choice after all! Just do a search for Rockhopper's car. His is white/Gobi. Or see some pics of his car here. Some more Gobi pictures here.

From an old Yeti brochure this is the Škoda take on fabric and exterior colour mixes:

I would go for onyx... I had a 5 series BMW with a light coloured interior, I wear a suit for work and dirt isn't part of my job however after 20,000 miles the car seats looked tired and grubby, cost me £65 for an interior leather clean but they never looked the same as new.

I have black in my candy white Yeti

My Gobi leather looks fine with an occasional clean with leather wipes.

I also have mushroom coloured floor mats to lighten up the interior even more.

Just don't wait 20,000 miles before you clean them all.:giggle:

Well it was my original post and here I am now 15 months later and definitely dont regret getting the gobi interior it is so light and airy but you do need to keep on top of the cleaning.

Would certainly get it again on next car !

In the Skoda "build your own" configurator it shows that if I choose Petrol (Lava) Blue Yeti Elegance with Gobi sand interior then the dash has a wood effect surround. I have seen several photos of Yeti's on this forum with a silver/grey surround on the Gobi sand interior.

Which is correct for 2012 manufacture??

There have always been lots of photos around on official Skoda sites showing the wood surround with the Gobi interior. Unless things have changed that was not an option in the UK - nor a standard fitting. Some of us (including me) have bought the trim privately from Allams the Skoda dealer who imported a batch for us who fancied them.

Well worth buying the 'wood' trim to go with Gobi: looks great!

What I dilemma indeed Paul.

As you are going to be sitting in the aforementioned vehicle for a CONSIDERABLE amount of time emoticon-0136-giggle.gif I would advise, go for the Gobi seats and opt for a colour that goes with them.

Whatever paintwork colour you choose, WILL grow on you in a very short time.

At the end of the day, just follow your heart emoticon-0115-inlove.gif and forget what your wallet tells you emoticon-0122-itwasntme.gif you will never regret it anyhow emoticon-0111-blush.gif and you know this all makes sense emoticon-0130-devil.gif Just think how jealous the neighbours will be when you finally get it. emoticon-0105-wink.gif

OOOO I didn't notice the date on these posts, so my post is pointless emoticon-0120-doh.gif

I have a silver Yeti with Gobi Interiors. These are the only ones sold in India on account of our countrymen's apparent fondness for beige. Personally I would have preferred Onyx as it suits a silver or white car much better.

Gobi is tough to maintain as I am finding out, especially after taking my dogs out in the yeti and despite all sorts of precautions like a cloth over the seats, rubber mats in the boot etc. one really has to take a lot of care of these beige interiors and I use these Armorall leather wipes on them each week to keep the seats clean, supple and nice smelling.

I assume I would have done the same with Onyx had I had these, but overall I would say beige shows up dirt and dust a lot more!

So here I am with a white Yeti on order and wondering whether to amend the order to have Gobi leather.

I like the combination and having a bit of a clean-car fetish, additional cleaning doesn't worry me.

To those who have this combination, would you choose Gobi again or was it a mistake?

John
