Urgent advice please - Loads or warning lights and limp mode....

Featured Replies

On Friday night a went out in the car to fill it up ready to go to the in laws for the weekend. On the way the tick over speed rose as part of the DPF regen cycle. As Shell was closed and I was short on time I had to make do with Tescos diesel. After filling up I thought I'll take it up the motorway for a bit to finish the regen cycle. However whilst still on the motorway the DPF light came on, then shortly after the glow plug system light started flashing at me and then instantly went into limp mode. Got it home and then the control system for exhaust light came on. I've since noticed that our Tescos is selling their Diesel with 7% Biodiesel in it. I'm hoping this isn't the problem.

The car is going into the dealers tomorrow and hasn't been driven all weekend, so they can tell me exactly what's going on and what needs done, and I'll go from there. A friend of my Dad's has said the diesel isn't likely to be the problem so maybe the DPF in need of replacement.

So is it ok to run the dieesl with 7% biodiesel in it?

And how much is this going to set me back? Dad's friend reckoned £800 - £1000 for the DPF replacement.... :'(

Just at the time when I could do without this expense.....

I'm hoping it is too, will see what they say . Hope it's nohing to do with crappy tesco's fuel.

From some info I've seen 7% of bio in the diesle should't be a problem.

Would love clarificaton on this though.

Anyone?

The diesel wont be the issue, all diesel sold in the EU now has about 7% bio in it, the only thing thats changed since it was introduced at least 12 months ago is that its now being advertised as a green feature.

I also checked out having the DPF removed, but that's still £800

As said, the fuel won't be the problem. The manual says not to use biodiesel, but they basically mean you can't run it on cooking oil or 100% biofuel. 7% isn't a problem.

My daughter had a similar problem with her 2.0 sport Golf a few months ago. The car wouldn't start after the DPF light and glowplug light had been on. I managed to start it while the RAC were on their way. The RAC couldn't find a fault. She drove home OK and booked it into the VW dealer the next day, they also found no faults and the problem never returned.

Can see that happening to mine......has been sat on the drive all weekend. It still starts and can be driven, so hoping it's a sensor fault.

I had almost the same problem when my Scout was 6 weeks old - and it turned out, after 4 days at the dealers, to be a 100% clogged DPF. Same warning lights and limp mode on the motorway as yours.

I'd had it at the dealers the previous week when the DPF light first came on. It took 4 days and maybe 20 miles running to go from 54% to 100%.

Cleared under warranty and no problem since.

Well an update for you.....thankfully turned out to be a failing air pressure sensor...., which I was thinking was going to be a sensor problem as I drove it to the dealers when the DPF and glow plugs lights went out and out of limp mode. She is now back to normal.....hoorah.

Thanks to those who replied...mini panic over... :giggle:
