Thinking of Remapping the Octy

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am thinking of remapping the Octy with Angel. They are doing 50 quid off through april so it has tempted me that little bit more. I've been looking for an excuse for ages!

What should I look for in a decent map....I presume the MAP should be as smooth as the original code..or even smoother but with more power and torque. No hunting or jerkyness of the throttle etc.

The increase they state is 40 BHP and 80 NM !

I am presuming this should be very noticable? Never had a remap before.

In addition they do an offer of 50% off a second map if anyone else is thinking of this and fancies going in with me to both reduce price further. The remap is £225.

My Octy has just hit 155k but has FULL service history and goes very well performance wise as it is. I think original clutch and turbo too...... Too much for it?

Thanks for any pointers.

I had my old 406 diesel estate done by Angel and was really happy with it. The performance was much better than the standard 110 bhp it originally had and Angel reckon it was about 140bhp after the map, but it was the extra torque that really made the difference. If I remember correctly, the 0-60 time dropped by about 1.5 seconds and the 30-70 time dropped by about 3 seconds

Car passed 2 MOTs after the map had been done (before I sold the car) and I got an extra couple of mpg out of the car too due to not having to constantly bury my foot into the carpet to make the thing move...

Angel remapped my Punto to 150 but it smoked like you wouldn't beleive! It was actually pretty embarrasing. The guy that did the remap tried three different maps and I was struggling to tell the difference from standard so he asked "do you mind a bit of smoke"? I said "no not really" but didn't realise it was that bad until much later in the day. I'm also convinced the remap and the resulting smoke contributed to my EGR valve going solid after 30K!

It went like stink but it was perhaps a little naughty that the tech left it like that.

Why not stick to a known quantity such as Shark Perfomance or REVO, both of whome specialise in VAG rather than Angel who would remap a puschair if they could!

Interesting.....Cheers will look out for smoke. Mine doesn't really chuck out much atm and I've just had the EGR and intake manifold cleaned out......

The reason I am trying them is because they have had good reviews from others, particularly the Alfa forums and they are also close to me here in Plymouth. In addition to others of course, they offer 14 day trial....

i can highly recommend Jabbasport in Peterborough. they have remapped my VRS and help diagnose a mysterious issue with it. there customer focus is second to none and there map is excellent.

Even further from Plymouth LOL.... Still that's where the car originated...perhaps it's time to go home !!!

P-Torque, there's another P. :D

I had my octy burner(07) done by Angel and i am very happy with it. Approx 40hp and 70 torque. I'm in the south of the emerald isle and they came from the north of the country to do the job. My mate did try to contact them lately to do a superb and golf but he got no reply. I hope they haven't disappeard. My car is going like a train though with the extra torque a real bonus. The fuel economy has stayed the same.

They seem very much alive from what I can tell....

Nice one, cheers for the info. Glad to know you can deffo tell the difference. It is still smooth to drive at low speed? Last thing I want is for it to be too much hassle to drive it slowly around town etc...

Ive had a few cars done by Jabba, always excellent results & worth the drive.

Like most things you get what you pay for. A Good remap should be quicker, smooth & better on fuel & only a hint of extra smoke when you are really really hoofing it. With a diesel watch the torque, big figures can be achieved but many good mappers err back from max to save the clutch

Another vote for Jabba. Well worth the journey and the drive back will put a huge grin on your face.

Well thanks for the replies. I've gone ahead and had it done. WOW does it fly or what!!!

Lost a lot of fuel economy but I've not been on a 'normal' drive yet. Mostly A roads, enthusiastic driving..

I've noticed a good puff of smoke when booting it, but it stops pretty quickly when the revs pick up so presume that is ok? Guess you can't have more performance without 'some' smoke. Your remapped cars do this also?

How much is too much smoke?

All in all I am amazed by how quick it is. Put in a 0-60 in 8.3 seconds, over a second quicker than before the remap.... :)

On average MPG you should see a noticable improvement but thats once the initial enthusiasm has died down.

Smoke, Too much is when you are tugged or it fails the MOT. you will get a bit more, mostly noticeable at night. If you can see puffs of smoke on a sunny day it may be a problem. If the back of the car starts to blacken up its way way too much. Mines ( Octy 110 tdi) generally quite light but will puff a bit if its been cruised for many miles & you suddenly hoof it

Fair, there is a bit...but not massive amounts......

Will see how it goes. Will have a go at doing a vid of it pulling away.....
