Drill for wheel nuts + torque wrench

Featured Replies

HI,

I am looking for a rechargeable drill to work on the wheel nuts along with a torque wrench. Can someone please suggest best options as i understand that the torque wrench can be very expensive. Any suggestions will be great and also the best place to buy.

Many thanks

I don't even see why you'd need an impact wrench.

If you've lost the key for the locknuts, a new set are about £20, and most Skoda dealers will lend you their master to get the old set off when you've buying the new ones if you ask nicely, or change them at no cost as part of a service.

Recently lost my locking wheel nut. Local Skoda dealer removed them and fitted a new set for £20 inc vat.

Torque wrench is required to correctly tighten the wheel bolts to the correct torque , a cheap impact wrench is almost impossible to calibrate correctly . A reasonable quality torque wrench can be bought from 'Screw Fit' for about £18.

Any method of extending the standard wheel wrench to increase the leverage will usually undo them. I use a 16SWG piece of steel tube that slides over the stadard wrench. Most supermarkets sell a telescopic wheel wrench with a 17mm and 19mm socket that will undo most stubborn bolts for a few pounds. You should always clean the wheel bolt threads with a steel wire brush to remove any rust before you re-fit them.
