New car number plate

Featured Replies

Whilst waiting impatiently for a confirmed build date I was wondering if anyone has been able to choose their number plate from those available to the dealer or do you just get what your given? Never know they might have "vrs"

The dealers have a list of available numbers..I was given the opportunity to pick one from this list and ONLY this list

Ditto, I had the choice of 3 totally uninspiring number plates.

I was told that there was no choice, as it was auto-assigned - and that it wasn't like the "old" days when you could choose off a list. Obviously that sounds like a bit of a porkie now from what ChrisRs and Harlequin have said!

I was given a list too, but there was nothing on there that lept out so I took the first one on the list....

depends on the dealer, when I bought the fabia I did not get a choice (not that it mattered as my private plate was going on it) but with the Octi I did. About 25 numbers to pick from.

Oh course if you dont like it you could always look on the DVLA's website as they have them from as little as £250

Likewise I was told there's no choice. TBH I suspect they (some) simply don't want the hassle. Often they have enough trouble getting right the things they have to do without introducing extra complexity into the mix.

I got what I was given but quite like it.

It starts "FY" as in F... YOU

If you don't like the selection available why not try: DVLA Registrations.

I just transfer my plate each time.

DTD Car, or did the Lancashire dealer just give you a good price compared to the Midlands ones?

Lol, yeah but I dont really want to pay an extra 500 quid for a plate.

Didn't end in NOB by any chance ? :giggle:

I was offered an original choice of 3 or 4 alternatives, and went for the one which would be easiest to remember

i think its literally about three reg no's they pick from when registering a car and they will just usually take one at random. my fabia vrs ends in vrw......so near yet so far!!

I went with Horton's in Lincoln in the end, cheapest of all the dealer quotes by far (4).

Never heard of DtD so might have got it a bit cheaper there, too late now. Will try them next time.

Yeah it doesn't bother me tbh, so don't really mind. When I had a choice with previous cars, there was absolutely no value in me having a choice anyway as nothing stood out. With this one, when I had no choice, I've actually ended up with one I'm really happy with as it's very symmetrical :)

had a choice from about a dozen when I got my Fabia, dealer has also promised us a"at least some choice" for our new octy, but it'll depend on how many of his batch are already taken by the time he phones us about registering and collecting the car.

he said that given the location of the grage, it should start SK10, but the chances of the next 2 letters being DA are *very* slim

I got a choice from about a dozen, I just picked the one that was least easy to confuse when quoting the number over the phone (you know F can sound like S sometimes, that kind of thing). Not that it matters, I usually use phonetics for something as important as getting it right anyway!

I bet if a dealer had 'vrs' plate in his list, he'd sell it and wouldn't disclose the number to his customers.

either that, or they'd put it on a demo car for publicity purposes.

we got a bit of a choice for the new Octy, and I managed to pick a plate that had my board name initials :giggle:

I just bought one from DVLA registrations for £250 for my forthcoming Octavia VRS. Was going to buy a "VRS" plate but went for one that I can happily transfer from car to car without it being model specific.
