Dump Valve? To be or not to be?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.8T RS (The Audi Engine)

Should I fit a dump valve, and if so, which one??? And can I fit it myself with no specialist tools...

Please help...............

Its an Octavia 2001, by the way!!!

This forum is for IT problems with the site, not issues with a car, so if some kind mod could move the thread?

You can't use an atmospheric dump valve with these engines; it's well documented.

Might be better off posting this in the Octavia I forum

To answer the question, yes you can although it needs to be either a fully-recirculating or partially re-circulating diverter valve (not a "dump valve") because our cars are designed to recirculate the boost into the inlet and it will throw up an engine management light if it doesn't see at least some of this boost being recirculated.

Popular DVs are Bailey DV30, Forge 007P, Forge Split-R (this one is half recirculating). Don't bother with all the jap ones as most of them aren't recirculating.

DV fitting is not hard, most valves come with fitting instructions, but you will need a screwdriver and some suitably sized hose clips to replace the single use clips holding the standard DV onto the pipework once you've taken them off.

Maybe I can hijack the thread, although only slightly. What DVs do you guys have? It seems to me that most everyone has the 007p or some variant. My problem with it (i have it too) is that it seems to get dirty really quickly, which, in my case, leads to boost fluctuations on WOT. Once I clean it and grease it everything's back to normal, no more fluctuating boost. It seems I have to do this every 10.000km, which is getting annoying. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've heard of APR DVs which supposedly don't need cleaning. What do you guys know about these?

I have a Bailey DV30 that's been fitted for 5 years and I've never cleaned it

I've got the Forge valve. Fitted it 2.5yrs ago and not touched it since! Still works perfectly.

Likewise

I've got a Forge Split-R which I replaced the standard valve with a few months back.

The cleaning only really needs to be done because the crankcase ventilation system recirculates oil vapour back into the inlet so the DV and the pipes into and out of it can get gunked up with oil but to be honest when I took my standard one off there wasn't that much oil in there.

You can either clean out your intercooler and pipework every couple of years or so to get rid of the oil, or fit an oil catch can as many members on here have done. Then you wouldn't need to check the DV and see if needs a clean every 10k miles.

I have the forge split-R and think its great. No problems with it gunking up yet, but am fitting catch can soon and vac leak hunting .

The top of the DV comes off it has a screw thread. You can remove it to expose the DV spring. You can remove the spring and clean the centre bore out then apply some thin layer of DV grease to prevent spring binding or catching the bore.

TBH the std DV is just as good. These have just been upgraded as well and TBH are better sealed than most aftermarket DV

Thanks buddy ,that was just the reply I was looking for !!

I have the uprated standard valve. Only £26 and its recommended by R-Tech.

Do you know the part number please

Check your own as you may have it fitted already.

Thinking of fitting one of these to my Octy VRS.  Is there any benefit or anything to gain from doing so?  Performance, noise (if you like that thing)

I'd like to know on the noise front as well. Which makes the best whoosh?

Yes, I'm a whore... :giggle:

If you want the whoosh noise the best choice is the Forge Splitt-R using it as hybrid and if you want stealth you use it in full recirculating mode.

But if you want noise with not big cost you take something like this

I have use the standard one,Forge 006,Splitt-R and now the noname dual piston blow off and i love it!

No engine lights and a little lag don't bother me as i don't push my car to the limits anymore

Better off going forge 007 or the normal one. If you get the new one its uprated and used in Porsche engines.
