3.6 Superb 4 x 4

Featured Replies

Good man, enjoy your car!

I get 34 on a really good run, but most of the time I'm driving how I want to drive so it's usually 24-32... I don't mind because the v6 is a fantastic car to drive! :)

Only complaint I meant to mention is that tiny fuel tank. S80 had a huge tank and could easily do 800 miles on one fill up. Haven't done a long enough journey to see what get out of one tank on a long trip yet or what the economy is like towing. Hopefully won't be much worse than the S80 which only did mid 25mpg with a van on the back.

How often are the V6 owners filling up on average?

I fill up once a fortnight usually...

Maybe so but it still only lets you do 100 miles at that rate

I think I do a little more than 100 miles! :P Lowest range I've seen on a full tank is 245 miles, most of the time it's 360 but its easy to reduce that range estimate!

I have mentioned this on another thread (and I'm resurrecting old 3.6 threads having just bought one :D ) but I got approximately 550 kms (375 ish miles) to the (60ltr) tank on a long motorway run (Geneva to Perpignan) cruising at between 110 and 130 kmh.

On the maxi dot it varied from 7.8/ltr to 11/ltr (between 21 and 30 mpg).

My journey to work is 19kms and I'll try to remember to post details of the economy on that once I have done a continuous week of work/home commute starting next week.

i dont think i could get to 360 miles to a tank if i drove flat out everywhere lol

Just having a flick through threads and I now have what I think are some relatively accurate figures for the car. Fill tank and do basic distance/ litres calculation. Not run tank totally empty (!) but forgetting maxi dot indicators I reckon I get the following:

Daily commute (approx 24 mile return trip on B roads) = 25-29mpg approx. (noticeably the former figure with cold winter mornings)

Long road trip (done several times now approx 1000 mile round trip) on mainly autoroute/motorways, loaded up (4 up plus loaded boot) = 31-33 mpg at around an indicated 140kmh (80 ish mph)

Personally I don't think that's too bad given the size and performance of the car.

Worst I had was 16mpg (maxi dot reading) hooning after an S6 up some back roads in the hills using paddles and sport mode :D

I agree, for that engine it doesn't look too bad. I suspect that on a single run, just with driver, it will be slightly better, poss mid 30s (35).

I recall having a 3.0 TDi Q7 and managed to get that into single digit MPG at one stage !!!

I completed a 120 mile trip today with my wife, 3 kids and a boot rammed full of bags pretty much all the way at 120/125 mph which is approximately 200 kph and I got 23.5 mpg. Not sure if that's good or not but the 3.6 litre engine was a dream throughout. I just kept thinking how great it would be to own an RS6 Avant...

Very similar amount of space just double the power!

From full tank to 68 miles remaining in a morning as per maxi dotty (if you trust MD).

Its a routine trip from Pirna (a very nice village on the river Elbe just south of Dresden) to Hamburg   .

Quicker (door to door) than flying, more comfortable than flying and more important significantly cheaper than flying.

I hope that was on an autobahn :)

Oh yes I was contemplating doing 140 mph the whole way but 23 mpg was low enough!

I would have thought the tank is too small for such an engine , it's bad enough with the diesel engine economy

Yes the tank is too small one of my only gripes along with the narrow front seats. Very happy with the rest of the car.

Not finding the tank size a significant problem to be honest. Fill ups on long trips tie in with needing to stop to stretch the legs anyway :)

Just a re-visit to this as I have just completed quite a long European trip (thread elsewhere) - around 30mpg on average. Not bad for a large, loaded up with four folk and luggage, big petrol engined performance estate :)
