Sorry if this has been covered, but the search facility on the web site seems not to be working, get no results no matter what I search for.

My seat in my Octy (MK1 2002 Elegance Hatch) feels like it's starting to fall apart internally. When sitting or getting out of the seat I generally get a metallica 'clinking' noise. On feeling the back of the seat there is a noticable hard lump sticking out of the back. I think it maybe a spring that may have become dislodged.

Does anyone know if it's easy to remove the cover of the seat without destroying it or cutting it. Also are there any airbags in the seats?

I may end up replacing the seat, but I'm sure this won't be cheap, anyone know how much a new seat would set me back including fitting?

Im not sure about how easy it is to take the seat apart but if you do need a new one Im guessing it wont be cheap through Skoda so go down the scrappie route. The Golf Mk 4 & Audi A3 fit straight in as well. I ended up with black leather Recaro seats from a Golf in my Mk 1 Elegance. The Leather out of the L&K would be an ideal thing to look out for.

On the Golf the rear seats are the same as well so all will fit but the Golf Door cards (inner panel on door) wont fit so choose a seat whos colour is sympathetic to yours if you go that route

My Mk1 Elegance was a 4x4 & did have airbags in the seats. Easy to swap seats BUT disconect the battery, I was advised to do this to ensure you didnt fire the bags, not sure if it was neccesary or not but seemed to make sense

Removing a front seat is uber easy. Push the seat fully forward and remove the runner covers in the rear foot well. Next push the seat back on its runner and look for the retaining nut (13mm I think) in the middle of the seat frame fixing it to the floor of the car. Once this is off, pull the seat forward and away from the front mounting point and then push back until the the seat frame come out the end of the runners. Undo any wiring underneath the seat (for airbags and/or seatbelt warning beeper) and hey presto. This is when you find that seats weigh a ton!

As others have said, finding a seat from a breaker would be cheapest option, try a search on ebay or the like for sellers breaking a suitable Octavia.
