Not being nasty or anything, but why does a fault with one Yeti mean that you have to rubbish the complete range? If you look at any car manufacturer based forum you will see people have problems with a vehicle. It doesn't matter whether it is Skoda or Merc or Toyota or Ford. You are buying a manufactured item and it is impossible to get 100% perfection every time. You may not have been treated well by your dealer, but I'm sorry your comment I have enbolded just seems vindictive and unneccesary, considering the majority of positive comments on here by owners about their Yeti's, and elsewhere in this Forum about other vehicles in the range.

Why even rubbish a model within a range. I'd reject but try to get another Yeti based on the overwhelmingly supportive comments from 99% of other people.

I don't belittle your problems but the evidence from this forum suggests that most Yetis are very well built.

A long time ago now, my boss at the company I worked at then, bought a brand new Ferrari. It was in the garage more than it was on the road and, within 6 months, he exchanged it for an Aston Martin.

Did this mean Ferrari were a rubbish car manufacturer? It may have been to him at the time but we all know the reputation Ferrari have and that the odd lemon coming out of the factory isn't indicative of the model or the whole range. Of course, we know that's the case here as well because, like Llanigraham, Trevorminor and myself, the vast majority of Yeti owners appear to be more than pleased with their vehicle.

It's a big pity that the odd "bad egg" is being produced and I feel sorry for the recipients and understand their frustration and anger. I'd be well miffed about it, especially considering just how well this car has been received by the motoring press and, as I've said, the majority of owners here on this forum but, based on that very fact, your efforts (should you choose) to rubbish the car and manufacturer as a whole will be, almost certainly, fall on deaf ears and be a waste of your time.

From my experience in the motor trade people do respond to problem cars in different ways. By far the most productive is to go down the route of rejection as soon as possible and end up with the car that you wanted from the start. After all, there are reasons that you chose a certain car in the first place and these should still hold true even if you buy a faulty one ( I speak from experience here). You would be extremely unlucky to get a similarly faulty car from the same manufacturer the second time around and it will not cost you additional money to do this. I fully understand that some dealers are awful but with a new car the law is on your side so use it. They have nowhere to go when the sale of goods act is breached.

The most unproductive and expensive approach is to stamp your feet, rubbish the manufacturer and trade it in for another make of car. (I am not suggesting that this is what Wilts_yeti is doing because I don't know all of the facts and his / her frustrations are understandable). If someone suggested to me that Skoda were not a quality manufacturer then I would simply point them in the direction of the numerous quality, reliability and ownership surveys that confirm this is not the case for the overwhelming majority of owners. Even Lexus make the odd lemon! (I have a friend who sells them and will testify to this).

My wife has a smart Fortwo that caused us a lot of trouble over three months. I did not conclude that Smart were not a quality manufacturer because the evidence from the majority of other owners confirmed otherwise. The smart was, and is, the perfect car for Mrs Shrub and so we just got it sorted. Of course, I could have visited the Smart forum, screamed about how **** the car was and how we would never buy another. Instead, a letter to the dealer principle and, with no extra cost to us, we now have a reliable version of the car that we wanted in the first place.

I do think that it is important that people with problem cars highlight these issues on the forum because it is valuable information for prospective buyers and owners. It is not constructive to post a tantrum.

Getting mine next Wed. Starting to feel like a reality. I looked at 3 completely different types of car and test drove each with the family to see how they were received. 1st was a Scirocco. Lovely car! Great drive! But way too small. My 8 year old daughter couldn't see out of the back window!

No 2 was an Audi A3 S line. My wife just walked away from this declaring it 'boring'. A bit small anyway.

I came accross the Yeti by chance and dragged my wife and kids reluctantly to the Skoda dealership. 40 minutes later with my daughter cuddling a furry Yeti in the back. We all loved it! Decision made!

I'll know soon whether I was right!

I think you already know the answer to that Simon, when you get you SM, post some pics plzzz

Yes judging by the overwhelming support and enjoyment shown here I think I'll enjoy it. I'm getting a 110 2wd Elegance in black. Will miss the power of my current 2.2 Civic (big engine-small car) but we'll all love the extra space, ride comfort and toys! Roll on Wednesday! I'll post photos of course!

Because in the 8 weeks I've had it I've had nothing but grief from it, breakdowns, bad build and hopeless service.

Normally I cover 30,000 miles a year, this thing has just reached 1,000 after 8 weeks - the rest of the time it's been off the road or the trips have been too important to my business to risk using it.

I must have been in a good mood to give it 2

One of the few bad reports I've heard apart from the rattles section. Could you enlighten me as to what problems you have had with the Yeti? I always think a balanced view is more helpful to prospective buyers than just reading about all the good things. Hope it won't be too painful reliving the past 8 weeks. Phil

I don't work in marketing or for a dealer or anything I promise! I'm an architect! I'm just curious as to other people's decision making process in buying a Yeti.

The Yeti is a great functional 4X4 Tell you the reason, the only reason, for not buying one. The small boot size compared to the Roomster. Other than that it ticks all the boxes for a user 4X4. Personally I am really peeved that the boot was not bigger as its a far better speced vehicle than the Roomster Scout and ideal for country work.

OK I'm envious.

Don't forget about the very flexible rear seating that allows for additional storage space and what you may lack laterally is made up for height-wise.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree totally with your comments about boot space.

We own both a Yeti and a Roomster and the space is pretty much the same. As my Yeti does not have a spare, the boot is slightly bigger than that of wife's Roomster Scout with a spare. If my Yeti had a spare then I reckon they would be very similar. Both are better than a Golf or Focus hatch and only really beaten by estate versions of the Fabia and Octavia.

If you realy want boot space, you forgot the Superb or even Superb Combi at about the same price as the Yeti!

Roomster

Luggage storage space (litres)

with rear seats up 450

with rear seats backrests down 1,555

with rear seats removed 1,780

With rear seats up (no spare wheel) 480

With rear seats backrest down (no spare wheel) 1,585

with rear seats removed (no spare wheel) 1,810

Yeti

Luggage storage space (litres)

with rear seats up (with spare wheel) 416 (322)

with rear seats rolled up

(with spare wheel) 1,580 (1,485)

with rear seats removed

(with spare wheel) 1,760 (1,665)

If the Yeti had the same space has the Roomster in the rear then the Exclusive 170 4X4 with Columbus would be on my drive now.

I take it that the larger font size and bolded type is you shouting these figures!

I repeat, I have sat within 5 metres of where I am sitting right now, an Elegance Yeti with 'gel kit' instead of a spare and my wife's Roomster Scout with spare wheel.

The boot sizes and usable space are as near as damned it the same, whatever figures you may produce - I presume from the brochure. Remember that brochure figures are calculated by total volume including nooks and crannies that are unusable in practice. I can get the same amount of 'dog', 'shopping', 'rubbish for the tip' or whatever in either car. If I need to move anything more than will fit in either boot, then both cars have the excellent seat folding/removal system. The result if you do this is again a space that is pretty much identical.

I shifted 24 suitcases using my wife's Roomster last year, repeated the same exercise a few weeks ago (don't ask why  ) with my Yeti and the left over gap was the same.

I am quite surprised that this is your sole reason for not changing for a Yeti. If the Roomster suits you for space then you will find the Yeti will too. If I'd been looking at a situation that was otherwise, then I would have not bought my Yeti and would perhaps have gone for a 4x4 version of the Octavia instead.

Don't get me wrong, the Roomster is a great car but it is not a patch on the Yeti as an overall package. As you would expect given the price difference.

This poll is not a sticky so might have been missed, so would any new members like to add their votes?

I just did...

There's an important reason for buying a Yeti missing on this poll.

The reason I've ordered one is because of the package that the Yeti offers. Probably every single Yeti attribute can individually be bettered in a different make/model of car. But it's the combination or overall package of characteristics in the Yeti that appealed particularly to me and which I'd suggest is unrivalled by any other current car.

One other important decision decider is fuel economy, the new TDI's don't have much competition from other 4x4's in this area.

Indeed. A good one I have missed. But with so many people that have now voted it won't make sense to add that at this late stage.
