Where the DIY FMICs will show similar results to the over-priced Forge ones? :giggle:

I'm hoping Rob is going to dyno run his after fitting his cheapo cooler. What do you reckon Rob?

If it manages three runs in a row, on the Shark map, with around the same bhp each time then I think you're onto a winner

this i doubt very much lol

the cheap small ebay cores will not give the same cooling as the forge / pro race etc etc will

the small cored ebay specials have been tested on seatcupra.net and showed they where not that much better and some worse than the side mount lol ( will find thread asap )

I just wanna reason to kick ya in tha nuts B)

Be interesting to see the figures on this one, also where the right hand pipe runs :)

Yes the right-hand pipe runs up the right side of the engine (looking towards the front of the car)

Should hopefully be able to fit it this weekend :)

And yes there will definitely be dyno runs.

Then I realised I never test fitted the headlight

Anyway while I think about how to fix this, here's some pics of the right-hand pipe routing:

I'm assuming this is down to the xenon lights? is the rear of the light unit deeper than non xenon?

Yeah they're a lot deeper apparently because of the ballast thingy on the back. The headlight washers also mean the washer bottle is bigger too.

Nice work with the pipe's......from the look of it the pipe run should be about the same lengh as std

Surprised to see how much oil came out of your smic considering you have an oil catch tank.

When I took mine off my 53 plate vRS thats done 21K, (last week) there was no oil in the smic that could be poured out... only a very faint oil misting and I dont have a catch tank.

TBH though I do tend to drive mine very gentley most of the time, so that might explain the difference.....not that I'm saying you dont

Yeah I was surprised when it poured out all over my bench!

It hasn't been off the car in nearly 6 years, but still!

I drained my OCC today - there was about 2cm in the bottom of a jam jar - yellow oily smelling water. Nice!

I must say i like the idea of putting a cone on it and putting it down low on the side of the road where the water collects! is this a cheeap for of water injection?

Was just thinking that this isnt a very good idea!!! No?

The cone's from may Carbonio intake - which makes nice whooshy noises :)

When it sucks up water!! lol

Only if you drive through a very deep puddle!

did you have to get a connector for the N75 valve installed into one of the pipes? all the kits i've seen don't have the connector on :wall:

Yes it has that connector on the pipe that connects to the turbo.

You seem to have issues with the CAI don't you... :giggle:

Do you have some past experience of one being used as a snorkel.... B)

So back to the FMIC. :D

I think I can get it to fit by using a 90 degree bend on the throttle body, then going down and into a U shaped pipe back to the FMIC core.

Bits arrived today but will need to be trimmed and re-swaged.

I hope the 90 degree bends aren't too sharp.

Spent most of the weekend faffing about with the FMIC and I just about have it fitted.

Only issues are that I half re-fitted the bumper before realising I'd forgotten to connect the headlight washers. By this time I'd had enough so I left it for when I'm feeling more patient :)

And the one that stopped me getting any further - turns out the port for the DV on the cold side is 30mm not 25mm so I have no way to connect up the DV at the moment. Unless I put it back in its proper place, but then I have no way to block that 30mm outlet so at the moment I can't start the car. Hoping the nextdoor neighbour will run me to the shop to get a suitable pipe!!

Beginning to think that this was a bad idea :o)

Haha, right. The car is finally back together!

I got the nextdoor neighbour to take me to Super Cheap Auto (local equivalent of Halfrauds) and bought a 30mm Isuzu radiator pipe.

Made a little slit in the end then clamped it hard on the DV and it seems to have made a good seal.

Car starts and runs okay, yay!

I've also ordered one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130370348796

Took the bumper off again, plugged in the headlight washers and re-fitted.

Just need to finish work so I can have a little test drive.

  • Author

Well it drives okay - but I have a funny noise which I don't like, maybe something touching one of the fans. Didn't drive over 60km/h :D

  • Author

Ever feel like you're conversing with yourself.

Well I found the source of the noise - epic fail - a clip was rubbing against one of the pulleys :o :o :o

Doesn't look like any damage was caused to the pulley.

Looks like re-fitting the bumper pushed the pipework back making it contact. Not good.

Beginning to wonder why I started this. Should have bought a proper kit.

Anyway it's temporarily fixed using cable ties, need to get the bumper off yet again and do some thinking.

Sorry Rob,gotta laugh!:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Hope ou get it all sorted.
