Fabia traded, Leon FR 2 weeks in

Featured Replies

Well guys, after trading my furby in two weeks ago and getting a Leon, here's a little write up of life with it so far....

Traded in ... '54 plate Black Magic Furby vRS, 56k miles, PD160 intake, Pipercross Filter, 17" Octavia Spiders, -40mm springs, Philips Extremepower bulbs.

Bought... '56 plate Black Leon FR (PD170), 35k miles, 18" cupra alloys, Black painted grill surround and B pillars, Cruise control, auto lights & wipers, armrest, ipod connector etc....

The leon is a bit quicker, doesn't have the 'in your face' low down torque of the PD130, the power is a little higher up, but it's definatley quick (for an oil burner).

The ride is fairly stiff as expected, but no worse then the lowered furby, and it handles sooooo much better. Miles more traction too (maybe down to the 225/40/18's). Is a joy to throw around the twisties.

The toys are good fun, I don't really trust cruise control for some reason, and I keep forgetting where the door unlock is, but I'm getting used to it.

The extra room is good, and its just as quick when its fully loaded.

Fuel economy wise, its a bit more thirsty, which was expected being a bit more powerfull and heavier, not got any decent figures yet.

Leon looks great

I'm disgustingly jealous, they are cracking cars!

Interesting review, got a mate with an FR and wondered how they compared  Also, I thought the FR was a CR engine, not a PD?

Looking Good ...

How are you fairing with the DPF .... So Many people are having issues with the Regen Process due to slow journey's (Most of us with todays traffic !!!)

Good news is though, You can Junk the Dpf, have a remap with a New Zorst & get 240 Bhp & Plenty Ft Lbs :D

Not a fan of that huge silver lump of shiny plastic in the leon interior, however they do go very well and the red interior lighting at night is nice.

Personally I thought the ride was a touch on the firm side (seemed to identify every bump in the road).

The FR only got the CR engine last year, so it's the 2.0 PD engine in this.

Yeah I've read up on the DPF issue quite a bit, but so far we've not had any signs of it, and were on our third tank of diesel. If we do get any major probs, I'll prob get a DPF delete sorted and revel in the huge power increase.

It is a firm ride, but the funny thing is, it takes the speed bumps round here alot better due to the wider track, doesnt catch as much of the 'hump'.

I'm just back from dropping my sister of home, 9 miles on nothing but twisty country roads, great fun! I hate to think what MPG I got on that little journey!

I had one for two years and loved it, the Fabia vRS must be really bad to notice much better traction in the FR, with a heavy right foot it could wheel spin all the way through second!

Over two years and 55 thousand miles I averaged 37mpg which was quite poor I thought as I did mostly long journeys.

Not sure when they brought this in but did you know if you hold the lock button the door mirrors fold in? Also, the alloys on yours are FR upgrade 18s, not Cupra wheels. Suprised the previous owner didn't get the Cupra door mirrors seen as he has done the grille and door posts.

Nice car and the problems I had with DPF on mine were due to software issues. What they couldn't fix was the coolant leak, one of the only things that meant I wasn't sad to see it go.

Hi, thanks for the pointers.

Yeah, even my missus doesnt like the mirrors. I'd like to put the Cupra rear diffuser on, but I just discovered the price, so that aint gonna happen!

The mirrors do fold in with the button hold too.
