Snapped Adjustment bolt when doing valve clearences help!

Featured Replies

So I went to do the valve clearances for the first time and one of the adjustment nuts snapped while i was adjusting it.

What do I do? I haven't started the car for fear of what might happen. Can I drive it? how do I fix it? What did I do wrong?

Please Please help, really gutted!

No, you can't drive it.

You'll need to remove the rocker bar and change the rocker in question for another one. Not too big a job, but don't undo it until you have a replacement as the two bolts are also head bolts so you don't want to leave them out too long.

There may be another solution such as spark eroding (not sure what you've actually broken off), but anything involving machining will involve the rocker bar coming off anyway, so cheapest way would (I think) be a s/h rocker bar with all the rockers.

Well I've stripped it down a bit further, it's just the adjuster nut so I figured it's just going to run as if the valve clearance was really badly adjusted. The adjuster nut appears to sit into a push rod of some form and is not connected any more than that. I really don't want to remove the whole rocker bar. At least till wednesday.

Yeah, but depending on how badly the valve is adjusted, it could cause bigger problems. What have you actually broken (and how?)?

Managed to sort it. Basically the adjuster screw that sits in the cam linkage and screws into the rocker arm is what i broke. I got a new one. Managed to get the rocker pivot to move enough to get the new adjuster in and then did all the clearances.

Thanks a lot for your help all the same.
