My new furby! But with problems...

Featured Replies

Hello!

I finally got round to getting the car today!! what a lovely days drive! I've been tinkering with it a little (shortened gear stick was this afternoons job, worked a treat! thanks to the uploader!) second was front strut. So problem starts here..

1) After I put the front strut on I gave it a little test drive to check if everything is ok, strut feels fine however whenever I turn left and right now even at low speeds it creeks or clicking noise from I presume there the strut is connected.. I originally thought I didn't tighten it enough so I gave a little more force into tightening it (dont have a torque wrench so unsure exactly how tight to do it). Same thing happened.. Any ideas would be lovely thanks!

2) lifting the engine cover I saw I think fresh oil residue near the top left of the block, I have no idea what this part is but I've taken a picture. Is this normal? it seems fresh oil and quite a fair amount of it. :S

Thanks for reading, hope its not toooo much to worry about..

I dont know where the potential leak is coming from. (or what that is for that matter)

Just out of curiosity what's this? ^

I cant help with the first issue but the second one is normal. Every fabia i`v seen leaks like that, mine is worse, hence why i have just got a egr delete pipe.

If your talking the Black Cylinder with a Hexagon on Top ?? That is the Oil filter Housing.

As above , All Egr's weep like that on the Vag range.

As for the Creek /Clicking ... Are you sure it was not there before & it is now just been high lighted as you are listening more due to the fitment of the Brace ..

Could be the Suspension Top mounts, Cv Joints, Anti Roll Bar Bushes/ Drop links, Console Bushes Etc.

I suggest a spray of WD40 on each item indivdually & then Test, Hopefully pin pointing which one is at fault .. Although spraying the Cv joint will be problematic :giggle:

I'd avoid using wd-40 on rubber, it can cause faster wearing (regardless of what the instructions say). Use a silicone based PTFE spray... can grab some from your local maplin's for a few quid and it has millions of uses (and doesn't stink like wd40)

Thanks for the quick reply guys, suppose i'll stock up on oil then.. Why an egr delete pipe? after some research I see not many benifits..?

FINALLY an oil filter thats easy to get to!

Oh I have a 3rd question if one may answer to my queries of the new car..

Brakes..! Defo need the 312mm brake conversion, but more specific question is for the first 2cm it has nearly no braking power, which is.. fair enough.. but when the brake is lifted its like a delayed reaction..? maybe sticky? :S I dont really know how to describe it but it doesnt inspire confidence in the brakes.. Place I bought it from said they've done a service and brakes were 'fine' apparently.. Another fabia VRS thing?

Edit: Im pretty sure I didnt hear them today until I've fitted the brace on, it clicks left when i turn left and clicks right when i turn right (so long i put enough load on them). The mount is the OMP one if it makes any difference.

Oh to add on the ptfe spray, tyre shine from the £ shop is the same thing but in a BIG bottle (we use it for our airsoft guns, which has sensitive rubber in them).

I had a kinda creaking sound also on my furby and the mechanic replaced the tracking rod on the left hand side. and it solved the problem. Maybe worth an inspection on yours?

The egr puts crappy exhaust gases back thru your engine to keep emissions down, Not good for the engine. It also leaks as you have already found out, not great either, and lastly, it get rid of one of the crappy VAG "giant C clip" boost hose connectors with a decent clamp type instead.

Matt

that egr is leaking badly!!

ive never seen one that bad before....

luckily i have a good un in my shed i removed a couple of years back from a low mileage 04 :)

pm and you can have it cheap :)
