Strange Noises from Rear - possibly brakes

Featured Replies

I noticed this a while ago and it is a very intermittant issue, but I can't pinpoint it. When I am braking from high speed, almost when the car has come to a standstill, or when pulling away afterwards, there is a loud 'clanking' noise from the rear of the car. It lasts a second or two then is fine. It sounds very metallic and I suspected something to do with the brake sheild on the rear discs ?? though I can't see anything wrong. I have been under the car, exhaust seems fine etc etc.

Regular braking results in no problems, the car seems fine and was recently given the all clear mechanically by a respected company recommended by Shark, so I am a bit baffled on this.

If anyone could advise or help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Nobody help on this one?

I had something very similar a few months ago. It was a clunk (rather than a clank if that makes sense :smirk: ) but most noticeable with low speed acceleration / deceleration. I couldn't suss it out with the back of the car jacked up so ran it in to JKM.

It turned out to be a simple as a single loose bolt on a rear wish bone. I couldn't spot it with the car jacked up as the weight of the suspension hanging down hid it. A spot of Loctite and a spanner and the problem was solved. If you can get the offending rear side of the car up in the air, then I would go around the bolts giving each one a firm tightening just to rule it out.

Strange that everything has recently been checked over down at AV Performance in Burton. It really is like a clanking noise, sounds like a bracket has come lose and is skimming the ground but when you look under the car everything is fine.

Very odd.

Nothing stuck or loose behind that shield?

I don't think so tbf. It's going back in for a couple of replacement parts so I'll ask them to have a look to see if anything has come free under there.

Oily bits are a dark art to me.
