Tuning An 03 Vrs?

Featured Replies

hi guys, im sorry if im going over old ground but reading the old posts has left me more confused than when i started..

I take delivery of a brand new vRS 5 door on friday - I will need more power ( im coming from a CLK 430 - but i will have a TVR as well!)

some basic questions based on what I have read..

1. what does the wrc spoiler look like and where do i get it?

2. which is the best tuning route? apr/mtm/revo... i think i favor revo at the moment?

3. can i get 300+ BHP without spending more than 3k?

1. IMHO, not bad but others may disagree. They can be bought from Butts, see in the links pages. Photos here

2. Jabbasport definitely, especially if you want to do no3

3. Yes,

And another convert! :D

Welcome to Briskoda ffelan, may your stay be long and prosper and your vRS be black ;)

Q.

Paul,

I think Michael likes the car to have done a few 000 miles before he does stuff to it. Which is sensible really. Give him a bell, he really is a helpful chappy. 01733 211779.

Hi and Welcome.

Seeing as most of July is now booked out to "us" and taking into consideration the current (well it was last week) 5 week waiting list, I don't see a problem in accumulating the appropriate mileage by August/September.:D

steveredrs is collecting (hopefully) his RS this week and he's booked in for July with the rest of us.

Hmmm.....350bhp Octy..........could really stick it to them bl**dy BMWs then.:D

ffelan: Which TVR have you got; this weks Autocar has an article on the new Tamora 350TC. Nice one!

Cheers.

Adrian.

the tvr is a tuscan...swordfish spec.. (the orig was reflex green but the wife wrote it off inside 2 weeks...)

the wing looks wicked as do the oz's

i think i will get a couple of thousand miles before i do anything heavy to the car -

what does the 3k of tuning actually buy me? big turb / fmic / other toys...?

We try and do them once a week, so the opportunity should

arise sooner rather than later... :D

Call me a killjoy, but isn't 280 a lot of horsepower to be putting down through the front wheels?

seems to work ok in touring cars... and will be using the same tyres!

wheres your sense of adventure?:D

Yes, 300bhp touring cars do fine with FWD. But then the Audi quattros weren't banned for nothing. And the BMWs carry a huge weight penalty... :D

Seriously though, on dry roads it's not much of a problem, so I've gathered from folks with RSs in the region of 250bhp. Yes, you'll have the TC cutting in at first, but if you learn to apply clutch and throttle like a proper racing driver, you can even move off without it.

It's in the wet that it becomes a terrible mess - so they say.

And understeer will remain a problem unless you put a BTCC-style suspension underneath...

So you will actually be using slicks, Paul?

Rob, you're a killjoy!

I'd say its getting near the limit. I'll let you know once I've tried Jabbas 350bhp Ibiza on Saturday :D

will be for track days!

plan on coilovers as well -i am assuming that something for either golf / a3 or TT will fit on the Octavia?

Nick here in ignorant mode again .... what are coilovers, please?

lovely posh combine spring and shock units - which are fully adjustable for height / rebound and can have any rate of spring - usually 2.25" diameter.

Not quite coilovers (you need to reinforce the rear turrets on the RS to run them) but I'm getting, hopefully next week, the KW Variant 3 suspension kit for the Octavia. Mine are taking longer than normal as, just for a change, I'm being awkward and asking for linear springs rather than the usual progressive ones. Unfortunately that means that I've had to wait whilst KWs competition department knocks some up for me.

My reason for going for the Variant 3 rather than Varient 2 was that I wanted seperate bump and rebound adjustment which my current Ledas don't have.

Fussy bu99er really :D

And hopefully next week I'll also get the complete suspension bush set. Well, it seems a shame to take all the suspension off and not do the bushes at the same time. :D

Only decision to be made now is; standard road bushes (probably some lairy colour like yellow or purple) or the Group N black ones (which are about 20% stiffer than the uprated poly ones).

Reckon mine need replacing after 90,000 miles

I take it the coilovers replace the struct?

Jon, have you fitted a front struct brace and are they worth it?

Cheers.

Adrian.

Not fitted yet. Waiting for a certain Impreziv gentleman to get me the price and availability. Still not sure whether to both and if I do whether to fit the lower one as well as the upper.
