Subtle Subwoofer box shape ideas..

Featured Replies

Helloo,

I have a 12" Kicker (square shape) sub, really missing the sound on it however I want to take up as little space as possible. Has anyone made custom box (enclosures) with space saving in mind?

One idea I was thinking was mounting it on the side (where the boot light is) however I don't think the 12" cone or rather the back end of the cone can fit into that hole.

Another may be making a false floor and mount sub there.. not sure what that will look like though.. Would've thought that would take up more space aswell..

Any pics of your set up would be grand! Been trying to use the search but not really sure what to search for.. :dull:

I just have a standard box, it takes up about half of my boot width. I'm going to be making a custom box that fits in on one side and will face outwards, with a cabinet for my roller blades on the other side.

I've seen on a couple of sites, builds in spare wheel wells and a can of the tyre repair stuff lobbed in the boot in case of a flat.

They were removable too.. infact, it seems like the find of thing someone would be making and selling ready built?

On this link, the guys mounted the sub in the boot floor and filled the spare wheel with sound deadening.. not sure where his tool kit went but least he kept his wheel.

And this guys build is very impressive... perfect fit!

^^ Would have thought that's just a case of building the back of the box as normal, then having a very large front. Friend of mine did it in his almera, Looked good, but didn't really use his boot for fear of damaging the woofer.

seems allot of people chop the two top corners off just to get maximum space usage. It's quite useful that only half the wheel well is round really ;)

If this guy had mounted that sub on a slant in that gap he could have probably got it down to the same height as the original floor! Or used a small pair of subs side by side.

Ahh, Im liking the false floor idea! the jack is on the right of the wheel in the pic, not sure if there is enough space for that in the fabia tho, will check it out later.. would be an interesting build. However, the echo area (whatever its called) is next to nothing.. :S So maybe removing the spare wheel completely and having the tyre gunk thing may be better.. hmm..... tough choice..

Has anyone side mounted theirs on the fabia?

Lol issue with getting the 8" active Babs is that Im more of an RnB fan, I have a 12" square sub with nice 800w rms Boss amp  But good luck on your sale.

It's not eh size of the sub, its the sub itself and the rest of the kit and installation.

The awkward thing about the boot is the hinges (or whatever they are) in the corners of the boot. Fibre glassing and false boot would be expensive and you'll lose the spare wheel if you want the sub in the spare wheel well. You can go for a shallow sub and a custom made box to take up minimal space.
