New phone

Featured Replies

Haven't gone Iphoney but finally decided that I needed to upgrade from my antique Nokia. After considering a variety of opinions (including daiking's here  ) I settled for a HTC Tattoo and in a few weeks I'll probably learn how to handle it :p

That it insists that my current location is Sarayevo is mildly irritating, but apart from that I like it. :) Being able to access my office mail via 3G instead of GPRS is a vast improvement. Strange, though, how one's expectations grow - it's not that long ago that just being able to read one's e-mail in the phone was a miracle :giggle:

I have to say I looked at all the options a year ago and went E51, which does mail and everything just nicely :)

Providing you can get on with the small and resistive type screen, I'm sure you'll enjoy tinkering with it.

I've up-graded to the Blackberry 9700, Like it

Good choice :)

I've got the HD2, to fit my bear-paws!

Ahh but have you had the stupid lock/unlock button on the top unlock your phone in the pocket, even when it's holstered and locked yet?

That is a f**king annoying bug.

mmmmm...........very annoying but in a quiet I quite like it, a bit like the stutter on my Fabia vrs, annoying but you get use to it and you are waiting for it to happen. Think I'm going crazy

Swedish,

I've gone full circle with mine, started out with a lot of the bloated apps/widgets that it ran out of the box. I slowly got rid of them and reduced the settings to help battery life. but now I have put stuff back on and am killing the battery again.

I've never had the problem with those apps running unnecessarily although I do have a gmail account linked to my phone. I just got rid of the widgets and turned off the auto Google data sync.

The mail app still brings me my Yahoomail without prompting. Additionally I use ASTRO file manager that can close apps and kill any unecessary processes when needed to.

At the moment I believe its anyone of a BBC app, Guardian app or some stocks app that are killing my battery, I don't find anything too resource hungry just battery sapping. Also read the time and weather clock widget is bad for power consumption too.

i have solved that problem..... onto ebay and got a white housing, 2 hours later, the top buttons are a bugger to press.

Now blackberry have officially released a white one and i now have to buy another housing :wall:

Cheers,

as said in another thread I'm not that worried about memory/battery consumption. Unless I need to browse the internet (including checking my office webmail and web calendar) I keep data transfer switched off, and I've also turned off unnecessary sync functions. The clock/weather widget was the first to go into the bin :D - replaced with Android's clock and calendar widgets. The latter is great, always showing the next item in the calendar.

A pity though that HTC Sync cannot handle my office web calendar. If I want to sync it with my phone I'll have to make a detour via Outlook. Also, HTC Sync doesn't work in Linux :(

Look on Google calendar on a PC, and find sync (top right). They have an app that can bridge the gap for you

OK, but this is still a detour. My office web mail/calendar is Zimbra, and it seems as if it cannot be synced directly to Android. But it seems as if I can sync Zimbra with google calendar, and then sync my phone... probably just as easy to store each appointment twice :p

I have to admit to being initially sceptical about the syncing abilities of the Android/Google stuff, but I have been very pleasantly surprised. My Outlook calendar syncs perfectly with my Google calendar which in turn syncs with my Desire. Any alteration made to any of the 3 systems updates the others. Very nice. Only downside is the Contacts only auto sync between Google and Desire. But it’s not too hard to export anything from either my PC or Google accounts (using C,S,V)

I'm waiting till August before upgrading my 9 year old Siemens C35 (Battery case held on by tape).

Apparently Alcatel will be releasing a new offering (Alcatel OT 980) which reports say is 3G, GPS, Android, with resistive touch screen and proper keyboard slider, 3.5m phono jack and will come in at sub £100.

I think this is more imminent than the press reports let on as TESCO are currently flogging its 2.5G predecessor (GSM/GPRS/Edge), the OT 780/800, on Tesco mobile net (02 surplus capacity) PAYG Service at £30.
