I am considering buying an Octavia L & K 2.0TDI DSG

Featured Replies

Good evening.

I am currently looking at buying a 2.0 L&K DSG.

I looked at this car about 5 years ago, and loved it, but could not afford it. Having looked around at people like broadspeed, I know I can now get a good deal (actually with the vat free dealers are offering I think I might just get it from a dealer)

What I wanted to know, is does anybody have any advice about what to, or what not to get included.

Is the sunset windows worht the extra money?

Is it worht getitng the flappy padel steering wheel?

Working out, if I get the satnav, it will add about £30.00 a monht to the finance.

If I get the proper ipod connection, does the stereo show the songs, and is it quick?? - I currently have an ipod conneciton on my peug 407, and it is soooo slow.

Lastly, can anybody confirm whehter they are using an Iphone 3GS, and does it connect properly.

All Positive, AND negatvie comments apprecisated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there wantaskoda and welcome! :)

Just want to say that although I'm not all that knowledgeable when it comes to the L&K I want to help as best I can.

The first, and most important thing imo; is that UK model Octys have a GSM III Bluetooth setup. Sadly this means that it will only work with phones that have the 'Remote Sim Access Protocol (rSap)' profile - no iPhone to date has this feature.

For the speed of the radio in relation to the iPod I suggest looking up "Skoda Bolero" on Youtube. I've seen it in action and find it's quicker than iPod functions I've seen in other cars. The track names show up on the Bolero stereo and all functions of the pod can be controlled via the steering wheel. Needless to say the connection itself (MDI) is an option that I'd recommend.

I wouldn't be one for the OEM Satnav as it's an excessive amount of money to pay out, especially considering that you could easily buy a superior TomTom/Garmin with 10% of the price of the upgrade.

I have yet to see SunSet Windows. Are they supposed to be tinted to help against glare?

As for the flappy pads it all depends on yourself! Do you feel you'll be manually controlling the gears yourself and that you'd like a 'sporty' feel to your car? Personally I wouldn't pay the extra for the feature. DSG itself is lovely though. :)

Hope I've helped a little..! Have you made enquiries as to waiting times for a new L&K?

Thank you very much for that.

I need to be 100% sure about the iphone as I drive 35000 miles a year, and will not use an earpiece, or a 'plug into phone socket' phone.

This could bring a halt to me looking into Skoda - The phone is a compnay pohne, and I am not going to change the SIM every time I get in and out of the car.....

I think I agree about the flappy paddles. From memory, you can change the DSG box to manual and use hte grarstick to change up and down, so this i would save £200.00 or so.

Finally hte satnav was to keep the car 'clean' of cables. I know that on my pug I have hidden most of the cables, but one of the things I have bene told is good about integrated satnav, especially with TMC is that it picks stuff up much quciker.

Need to go and visit a dealer this week.

Thanks again.

Hope this reply helps you a little more,

The i phone is NOT compatable with the skoda / vw /audi bluetooth system. However there is an aftermarket Fiscon system that can be fitted. This intergrates fully into the car and works the same as the OME but uses standard bluetooth protocol and not rSAP, so will work with the i phone.

As for the satnav, the OME only has five digit search, I would stick with a tom tom and hide the wires.

Not sure how dark the sunset glass is, I have ordered for my new Superb estate that is due on Friday, so I can let you know.

As for DSG, yes it can be put into manual mode with the the standard controls, and for me and from what I have read from others on this site the paddles are expensive and not used very often when you have them.

I can't help you with the i pod connection, why not post a question in the ICE forum on this one.

Hope this helps a little more
