Middlesbrough Mobile Coverage -O2 or Vodafone

Featured Replies

Hey all. I've just managed to find a shop to sell me a Nokia 9500, but they are only available on O2 or Vodafone. Having normally had Orange, I don't know how good these networks are, and was wondering if anyone in the Middlesbrough area could comment on their service...coverage, sound quality etc.

The guy in the shop seems to think that Vodafone is best, and normally on a par with orange, but I thought some actual users may give me a better idea.

All help appreciated

Cheers

Neil, I'm on O2 and although it's fine around Darlo / Boro / Stockton / Durham get more out into the sticks like where I live and it's sometimes hit and miss with reception. For example in my house I can only use the mobile upstairs. My contract's up in a month or 2 and I'll be switching from O2 to summik else.....

Never had a problem either network around here. No mobiles work around Sheepwash/Osmotherly (for some reason). Vodafone don't do too well in some buildings. The only reasons I went back to Orange from Vodafone were - free new phone and Vodafone doesn't work where my sister lives (in Leeds).

Cheers Jimmy, I think that rules O2 out.

Sounds like Vodafone could be alright, but I don't like the sound of poor service inside buildings.

I could get the phone sim-free, but it'd be

We only have problems (at work) in some buildings (which may be lead lined). Orange mobiles don't seem to have the same problem that Vodafones do...

Aren't Orange / One 2 One on a different frequency from O2 / Vodafone if memory serves me right?

Indeed - Orange and T-Mobile are 1800MHz, O2 and Voda are 900.

However, all the companies do use some different frequencies in different areas for fill-in coverage...

Thanks guys...I spoke to the guy in the shop again last night, and he suggested that if I was happy with Orange, then I should wait til orange releases the phone on their network......even advised me against buying it sim-free, so I think I'll wait. Only thing is, Orange are normally a good few months behind when it comes to approving the handsets.

Cheers
