VRS or L&K

Featured Replies

Without apology I am pipes and slipper brigade (physical age but not all attitudes). I made a conscious choice between VRS and L&K. - and diesel or petrol. I had a 1.9tdi Octy for 11 years and been diesel for 25 years. I decided that DSG was a must and the 7 speed version attracted me in particular. I also decided that if diesel it had to be the new CR version (not available on L&K). That latter consideration I would not now consider to be a strong criteria (particulate filter problems with my mileage etc.). My pipes and slippers put me off lowered suspension - particularly with a potholed access to my property. So I ended up with 1.8TSI L&K DSG estate - rosso brunello - with steering wheel paddles. I think it is a stunning car and not exactly slow when I exchange my slippers for steel toe caps. I certainly would never utilise the full performance of a VRS. I do like bells and whistle so the L&K is a very economic way of getting everything on the car. I find the seats very comfortable (unlike a recent poster on this forum) and the DSG is an absolute dream - all I imagined and more. I am carefully monitoring fuel consumption (brimming etc.) and find that it has so far done 34.76mpg. Maxidot says 35.8mpg. I have tried 95 ron and 98 ron and find absolutely no difference in performance or mpg. By chance, since I bought it (1176 miles ago) my journeys between fillups have been very consistent. A good mixture of town, country road, A road but not much motorway - longest journey about 60 miles. There are indications re maxidot that on long A roads / motorway journeys that I will get at least 42mpg. These mpg figures are almost identical to the ones I had assumed in my heartbreaking calculations in whether to go for petrol or diesel. In my very long consideration (lots of reading this forum) prior to buying all my assumptions have so far proved to be correct. I didn't even test drive any vehicle (no 1.8 DSG available) but my assumption that I would like it was very accurate indeed. Re steering wheel paddles - I DO like them and occasionally use them (nice toy) but I find the 1.8TSI engine so quiet that manual changing for me could be a bit haphazard - I just can not judge/hear the revs clearly. Watching the rev counter is not my strongest ability - I like my eyes on the road. I don't think I'm particularly deaf (though my hearing will have deteriorated a bit with age) but after 25 years of raucous diesel engines I do find the silence to be pleasantly disconcerting.

See, diesel is rubbish :)

Unfair to say that "Diesel is rubbish" in a blanket statement.

Diesel has a place on our roads, and I for one wouldn't want to be running my 25K per annum mileage on Petrol.

HOWEVER.

That said, If I was rich enough to have two cars and not care about running costs, then I'd certainly have a petrol ;)

So you l+k guys what equipment do you have over us VRS guys?

L&K gets a multifunction steering wheel, Curtain Airbags, Light Assist, Electric adjustable heated front seats, leather, Hill Hold control, Maxidot, Rear Sun screen (on hatch), illuminated interior door handles and Xenon headlights

Notice all those extra lighting options... the Pipe & Slipper Brigade obviously can't see very well... I know where the door handle is and don't need it illuminating for me emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I some of those are available on the vRS, but only as extras, and not as standard

Well the only thing out of that lot I would be interested in is xenon's< You did not comment on the fact that the P and s brigades legs are doddery!

Hi to everyone,

I have never smoked in my life, but do like my comfy slippers. I am only 58, so hardly old :giggle:

I have an L&K TDi estate on order. Build week 16 was given to me by the salesman at the time of order (early March), and I have been told that it was built that week and should be here in about 3 weeks.

The reason I went for the L&K was that it has all the boys toys included in the "basic" spec, and it does not have the uncomfortable lowered suspension. I also wanted the PD engine. I have had audi diesels for years and the PD is IMHO a more robust and proven engine.

I had a 2009 Audi 2.0TDi 170 S Line saloon and did not like it, so have traded it for the Octy. I have a 2002 2.5TDi Quattro avant sport that I have had from new and I love it. I dont think the quality is there in the new Audis. When I test drove the Skoda (not an L&K), I was really impressed and it felt like the Audis used to be. I was also impressed with Ian at Delmore Inverness who has been excellent so far. He was very accommodating and helpful and not at all pushy. I hope the delivery and aftersales is as good.

Regards

Pilkers
