Octavia help please

Featured Replies

Hi Im new to forum

I have a Skada Octavia 1.6 52 reg. Having awful problems with engine management light constantly on.

When my garage clears codes the warning light comes on within 3 miles.

I get codes P1118 Lamda sensor heating: B1 S2 Open circuit

P0130 Lamda sensor B1 S1 malfunction in curcuit.

I had Lamda sensor changed put light poped straight back on. My Garage is stuck now and say they cant fix it they suggest ignoring it because its driving OK

They say may I need a service because emission were only just in on MOT.

Help!

Can i suggest you change your garage.

Sounds like either a faulty replacement lambda probe or a break in the wiring somewhere.

Did they fit genuine parts?

The emissions were probably only just in as the probe isn't working properly which is why the engine management light is on.

Take it to an approved Skoda dealer and get them to scan it, and repair it, I bet they will sort it straight away.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate your help

The garage I bought it from had an MOT business and a car Lot elsewhere, which he was selling, so, had cars to sell. He claimed they were selling at cost but I haggled him down £200 but spent much more on repairs after the sale. His argument was always you knocked price down so you can’t expect perfection.

When bought, had many problems which weren’t noticed until I got home, I took a short test drive (my bad) but after sale found loads of things wrong. I had no air con which he said he would fix but his air con machine is broken can’t be fixed, no window wash, he spent a few quid on central locking but things still were not good, I have to draw quicker than Clint Eastwood to get car open before it locks itself lol, My battery had lost all life but to be fair he sent someone out to replace it. I took it to MOT yesterday and he passed it despite my emission were almost out and driver’s seat belt is iffy but he did fixed window washer for free.

Despite all that I love the Skoda.

It drives great but that engine light being on all the time bugs me.

Like I said they plugged in fault reader, said it was my lambda sensor changed ( i paid) it but no joy..

What could it be?

As before, rather than waste money with a back street cowboy, go to a main Skoda dealer, ask them to scan it, and they will tell you what it is and what it will cost.

With the best will in the world, its impossible to ask forum members to diagnose a fault as specified by you over the keyboard, and we could all come up with different suggestions, that would each cost you more money and still may not cure the problem, so bite the bullet and get someone who has the proper diagnostic equipment, specific to your car to actually tell you what is wrong, it will be quicker in the long run.

Also, I assume you are aware there are two sensors????

I guess your right they may have changed the wrong sensor...he did tell me that there would be no promises that attempted fix would work. Just feel crap about spending a lot of dosh on a £2000 car.

Method feeder.

You must be live close to me. I used to fish bank end..... now on syndicate up the road from there.

They may indeed have changed the wrong sensor, hence my telling you to take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing, as opposed to the guess work of the people who have taken your money and done nothing to help.

Its very easy to throw good money after bad, and the car just becomes a money pit, so take it to a dealer, get them to tell you what is "ACTUALLY" wrong with it, and then budget as to if you want to spend that sort of money?

Whilst £2000 might be a lot of money to some to pay for a second hand Octy vRS, when buying a car of that value you must budget for things to be replaced, hence the low price to start with, for if it was in perfect condition, it would have been dearer to buy in the first place.

I live in Essex, and the comment as to being on a bank fishing, relates to any bank I can catch decent fish from....LOL

Actually in this case we will all make the same suggestion - take it to a dealer.

Get them to fix it and write on the invoice what was wrong and what they did to fix it. If they replace a probe make sure they write on the invoice which one. Armed with this info go back to the original garage and get your money back for the failed attempted fix.

Really appreciate all your input...taking Octavia to an approved Skoda/VW garage thanks to the advice from folks on here..Are approved dealers generally OK? It may save money in the long run because it’s a nice car that I plan to keep for a few years.

It is my “other†car and was only bought for fishing trips but prefer to drive it more than my work car, it’s fun to drive ( I’m sure others will agree)

My other car is a boring 2 litre Mondeo TDCI diesel I hate the turbo difference and heavy steering. When driving slow it’s a pain, because of turbo...in and out... but if you put your foot down on motorway its good. but the handling on the Octavia is much better.

Skoda have surprised me because I once had an estate version of the Favorit around 95, I hated it. Apart from the fact that you could stand in the engine bay to do servicing, there was so much room...

Must admit it was very reliable. I am a fan of all Skoda’s, I remember my step dad having a rear wheeled drive Estelle and was the only one who could drive during a snowy winter years ago and help a lot of friends locally (?83) He had it tweaked and kitted out with a lot of upgrades..Yeah I know rear wheeled drive is not the best in snow but it handled brilliantly..acording to him .

Must stop rambling or I will get onto my other passion the Mini lol...

Once again thanks.

I will let you know what happens....

The car has two lambda sensors, B1 S1 is the one before the cat, B1 S2 is the one after the cat. They are both showing faults and only one was replaced, so I would still expect the light to come on. In effect the garage have only fixed half the problem by replacing one sensor.
