Really worried

Featured Replies

Driving home tonight i noticed in 3rd or 4th when i accelerate hard the rev gauge just jumps upto 3k from 2k without any change in speed.Once it hits 3k there is a jolt.I can hear the whoosing of air at 1700rpm and the the turbo whinning has a pipe come loose so im losing the power of the turbo.Whe i accelerate it feels like im driving on snow the revs increase but i dont go any faster.Im no mechanic and could really do with some help.

If the revs increase without an increase in road speed, then the clutch is slipping.

Yep - would place a £10 bet that your clutch is slipping like buggery. Try sticking it in 5th at 40mph and flooring it. Same should happen, but probably worse. In the short term, use revs, not the low down torque, to drive it.

Ok ive just tested it 40mph in 5th.Starts at 1500 rpm goes nicely upto 2000 but then jumps to 2500 for a scond or 2 then goes back to 2000.Clutch nackered?

sounds like it, how many miles you got on the clock?

60k,got it remapped but always looked after it never thrashed it around. Is there no other issue it could be or am i clutching at straws?

if its been remapped that leads me even more towards the clutch, just because your putting more power and tourqe through the standard clutch and it wasnt designed for it.

Its running 169 bhp and 295lbs torque. The only other idea i had is a loose air pipe somewhere but like i said originally im no mechanic

clutch clutch clutch.........clutch

Get your head under the bonnet, find all the pipes you can, the hot ones you don't need to worry about...

remember where the hot ones are start the engine, and all the not hot ones, run your hand round them and feel for air sucking or blowing out of joints (mind the spinning belts and pulleys) if you think u have found somewhere and arent sure do the old wind in the air trick, stick that finger in your gob and if its dry at that area then there's your leak...

Or, go to the nice garage man and ask him 'can i have a new clutch please' he will ask for money and no more strange revving.

or go talk to jabba ;)

my advice would be to get an uprated clutch to deal with the remap no more worries in future then and it will save alot of money in the future!:thumbup:

+1 for jaba!!! :giggle:B)

Uprated clutch for just a remap is overkill imo, just make sure you drive properly. £100 standard clutch, and £100ish fitting somewhere sorted.

Does a clutch just go or is it a gradual thing?Only spotted this problem yesterday i drive the everyday so would of noticed something before.Going down to menders to get another opinion already accepted its clutch, time to raid the savings account.

Your clutch is deffo slipping. It sounds bad, but as jase said you the revs and you can get by for quite a bit, but start saving for an uprated. Though the OEM clutch can handle 295ft/lbs as long as its driven right.

What kind of uprated clutch should i be looking at?Links would be appreciated so i know what im looking for.Obviously want something that can handle the extra torque.Im really disappointed as ive always driven it with care, never hard accelerate under 2k.Never mind invest in a good one and hopefully end of story.

FWIW, my clutch is coping well with ca. 330 torques on a standard clutch :p. I did have a spate of it slipping after I managed to glaze the friction surface reversing up a ramp in a car park (thanks to a really-well-parked Navara  ) but a couple of weeks of normal driving got rid of the damaged layer and it's been fine since. :)

Don't whatever you do try to 'burn' the glaze off!

I reckon assuming it's terminal is a bit OTT, though...

It wasnt the clutch that was the problem just been down to skoda for them to look at.The intercooler pipe had come loose slightly so air was blowing out which caused the increase in revs but no extra power.Relieved to say the least, drives exactly the same as before. They did however charge me 60quid for the privilage of fitting the intercooler pipe back together again.....I'll leave it to your imagine what i think of them!!

£60!!! I hope they used KY after they bent you over the service desk. That is shocking!

dealership labour rates are what they are and at the end of they day they were able to do a job you couldn't do yourself...
