CLUTCH JUDDER ON FABIA II 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Clutch judder is a very common thing with VAG 1.9 TDi's. My old Golf Bluemotion developed one after about 8K and had to have a new clutch to cure it. Did start doing it again however but only on cold damp mornings.

In fact my MK6 2.0 TDi 140 does it very occasionally as well.

My Roomster 1.6 petrol does this too so I guess it is something to do with the clutch setup on the Fabia/Roomster rather than anything engine specific. Not experienced this on any car before so I don't think it's my driving! As others have said it is particulalry bad on steep hill starts.

My 2008 driving school Fabia 1.9PD does not suffer any problems, even after 37.000 miles and dozens of pupils driving it and passing their test in it.

Maybe the theory about the clutch getting a bit of "use" does hold water, although i do tend to teach my pupils to treat the clutch gently, using no accelerator until the pedal is all the way up.

I encourage them to use no accelerator when doing manoeuvres as the car is quite happy to "trickle" along with no revs, in fact my garage is slightly up hill and when i put the car away on a night never use the accelerator, using the clutch bite instead .

I have a fabia estate 1.4 diesel 100,000 miles when you set of you get clutch judder, if you give it some rev it seems OK ,I think 1st gear & reverse gear are far to high! the clutch doe's not smell ok when changing though gears ,I can live with it cheap car to run and goes' like stink love it ,just that judder that annoys me.

Is the clutch original?

My o9 Fabia greenline is now on its third clutch. in 160,000 miles. First went, had dealer fit number two, that wore out and last April, Mr.Clutch fitted one for less then half price, 2 year warranty. This one seems to be the best. No judder, smooth and light.  I'd recommend them. I just purchased a Dacia Sandero Stepway and that has judder. I won't throw away a good clutch but will deffo get a price quote from Mr. Clutch again. Leytonstow branch, for those who are interested, with nationwide branch warranty.

It isn't a 0.9 TCe is it? Ours is doing the same.

That it is! a 2016 Laureate...  Didn't notice it on test drive and driving 30 miles home but once the cold kicked in, it started. Its not too bad and you can get round it by adding a little gas and moving off, then get off the clutch quick. The Fabia needed no gas and just went off and would plod at 5MPH, without gas imput so really, I just need to drive it like a petrol, not a diesel!

Oh, I also had dual controls fitted and initially thought they must have fitted them wrong but on the Dacia forum, it seems it is a known issue! Sometimes a proper fault but usually driving style.

Ours does it. I don't drive it as it's my Grandfathers and I'm not insured for it. It's not consistent when it does it but it's an absolute pain. Ours is a 2014 Ambiance (also known as the one up from the base spec IIRC) but has only done 32k.
