How do I add the fuel consumption link to my posts? It seems that a number of features in setup don't work any more.

I also could do with a higher top gear. I seem to drive around town between 1100 & 1500rpm, so when I'm on the motorway, 2000rpm at 70 mph feels like it is reving too high

I want a massive overdrive gear that will allow me to do 120mph at 2,000 rpm on the autobahns - that would be lovely! :giggle:

If you use the link to Fuelly in my signature you will be able to set up an account and paste it into your signature.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a link to signature

In Lowen's signature you click on the words Fuelly next to the tiny picture of his blue Yeti in the area under his posts (known as the signature), or in mine you click on the actual fuel consumption number next to the tiny fuel pump in the area below this post that will take you to an external site (in my case the German site Spiritmonitor) where you log your fuel usage. It is not provided or done by Briskoda. ;)

Johann, that looks too complicated for me and time consuming

While we are on the subject of consumption I covered 148 miles today, on returning home my journey average showed 50.3 mpg  on the Maxi dot, I know its not accurate but still not bad and I wasn't hanging about, outside Glasgow to Loch Fyne so not much stopping and starting (my last car was lucky to see 27mpg for the same journey if I was careful ). The MD is now showing an overall average of 44.1mpg, 1358 miles.:thumbup:

Betty is averaging 550 miles to a tankfull and thats driving to speedlimits and keeping to 60 on the motorway, average travelling 10 mile trips on dual carriageways and shes done just over 1000 miles. I hope she loosens up a bit i was hoping for better economy......

Yeti 140 4x4 Best MPG was 56.7 over 25miles of combined motorway and A road ( really was working hard to get this) Best MPG at high speed (80mph) is 41.7mpg over 45 miles. My average over the last 1700 miles is 44.3 mpg

I was driving around South London today for about 1 1/2 hours and about 16 miles. I averaged 27mpg.....But yesterday I averaged about 42mpg over about 80 miles, but that was more round London than into London like today.

Thanks Johaan I can't fathom out how to get the Spiritmonitor info into the signature though.

You nearly have it now in your signature. BUT in Spiritmonitor go to your account then you will see "Add fueling" and "Add note" and under that an arrow and "More". Click on that and then "Mileage icon". That gives you six different ways of showing the fuel consumption and a choice of l/100km or mpg. The URL links there are specific to your account and ready for you to cut and paste and put into your signature.

You also have to put square brackets around the first or it won't work. As you can see from you signature as it stands it does not work. OR when you are editing your signature click on the icon above this window that looks like a chain with a green plus below (to the right of the smily face). Then paste the URL there. Job done.

I drove from 'eastest' Kent to southampton yesterday, into a vicious head wind and got an average of 49.8mpg on the maxidot, return journey this morning got me an average of 57.8, overall having done 1400ish miles is around 50mpg.

My consumption doesn't seem too good now that I see others.

In my defense my overall mph is made up of mainly 10-20 mile town journeys.

Yours looks about right.

I think that is one of the faults of these type of threads. We are being asked to compare the incomparable. None of us drive in the same way, at the same time, or over the same roads, or even with exactly the same vehicle even if they might nominally be the same.

I'm lucky as I do a 48 mile trip over generally open roads, with little traffic, but I also keep a pile of heavy bits in the boot, from a big First Aid kit to a large tool box of recovery gear, etc.

The only thing we can do is look at averages, preferably over long distances, but take them all with a bit of a pinch of salt.

Servicepoint - I don't hang about - you can see my fuel consumption below ;)

I don't feel so bad now although I have been careful with it while running it in. The other day was probably the first it was driven quite hard (apart from when it was in the mechanics hands). I realise your figures are more accurate as mine are from the MD.

The car is being run on Shell fuel at the moment something that I haven't done since my Subarus, I am pondering going back to Tesco fuel for a period to see how this effects it.

I was checking my deductions for private miles driven in my car over the last 12 months. To do this I had to calsulate roughly the true mpg from fuel bought.

This worked out at near enough 45mpg for 18000 miles of varied use, with quite a lot of high speed motorway trips, the maxidot normally settles at around 49 to 50mpg so seems to be about 10% optimistic.

Interestingley although the speedo is similarly optimistic, the trip meter is usually within 1/10th mile over a trip of 135 miles which I do regularly, copared to the estimated trip on the sat nav before i set off. Strange that they can get this accurate, yet the speedo and fuel consumption is not.

This car runs happily on cheap supermarket fuel, indeed it is a requirement of my employers that I use the cheapest fuel. If I run short on a motorway, I am supposed to only buy enough to get me to a cheaper supply elsewhere!

Drove back from Worth Matravers on the South Coast, to Croxley nr Watford.

Got 58mpg average on the Maxidot display.

Have since filled up with Shell V-Power for the next tank to avoid their horrible Fuel Save stuff.

I had a short trip round London today. Quite impressed really. Used the local NCP called the M25.

119 miles at an average of 41mph, 2 hrs 55 minutes round trip at 50.3mpg average. I kept the speed down to around 60mph on the motorway. All from the corrected maxidot.

So that's like, well, 55mpg or so on an un-corrected maxidot.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Not bad for the olde Diesel DSG.

PS I seem to get the best mpg when on my winter tyres according to my records.

If I'm honest I would say that I have been disappointed with the fuel consumption of my 1.2 TSI. Was really expecting better especially as I've always used super unleaded. The cars does a mixture of driving but not many motorway miles and we've covered around 4000 since we got it in July. I haven't worked it out exactly but the computer says we have averaged around 32 mpg over the last 500 miles.

I have driven with fuel consumption in mind for the majority of the cars miles but now adjust the display away from average consumption as it is so poor. We initially seen journeys of 50+ on good 50-60mph dual carriageway runs but I struggle to achieve 40+ now on the same runs (no A/C, heating etc.)

I'd like to hear more examples from 1.8 Tsi owners. Whilst I'm delighted for the Diesel owning fraternity that they regularly achieve 40+ mpg! I'd be interested in what the petrol heads are getting to compare like with like.

So what do you get driving around London in heavy traffic? or on the motorway?
