my range yesterday was 535 miles'..as for oil, its been filled from empty( light flashing on dash!!) 3 times now in 8000 miles...told them it will be going thru the showroom windows if it needs filling [email protected] in as per manual and had loads of new cars/bikes and never had any problems with oil apart from a gpz600r in the mid 80's!!.....apart from the oil problem, white badges, and paint blistering on rear arches...i love the car!

That is not right... It's running on oil.! (as an edit did you give it any welly when "running in" ):smirk:

Wish I'd seen this thread while I was in Chamonix and Argentiere last week. I thought for a while there was something wrong with maxidot, but it did it twice. No photos unfortunately; but from Argentiere to Chamonix is about 7k, pretty much downhill in top gear all the way (40/50mph) and I was seeing three figure readings (on the display with the little O with a line across it, not the one that changes 10 times a second). Driving back up (no great speed, no hard revving) saw the figure drop dramatically, but still left a 72mpg average.

yes i ran it in as per all my other vehicles, varible revs, not labouring....

We now average 43mpg on our one year old 1.2 DSG Elegance. About 80% of that is on cruise control at 55mph, which gets us around 46mpg. Drop to 50mph on the cruise control, and you can get around 50mpg. Remember the old saying - "50 is thrifty, the ton's more fun".

So it's you holding up all the caravans at the front of the queue.

No, I very rarely have anything queueing behind me. One advantage of living in the far north of Scotland - no traffic.

Drove from Stoke on Trent area to Warwick area on Tuesday afternoon, lots of 50mph limits and free flowing traffic on the M6 at 50 as well, rarely got above 65mph, maxidot averaged 63mpg for the 80 mile trip!

Had to fill up when I arived and range for the tank was 770miles. (Ok not real world and I know my maxidot is 10% optrrimistic, but still looked good.)

It is surprising how that extra 10 to 15mph eats fuel if you drive at 70+; drops to under 50mpg on maxiot.

This thread is about "the best mpg so far".

Well mine was when the car was newer than it is, and i have found recently that the MPG I get is consistently worse. emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

I used to get varyingly 44 to 49, but for the last 6 weeks I have been getting only 39 to 41. Nothing else has changed - old tyres replaced with new ones, car serviced - all during this period, and I record, geekily, all my expenses for the car to the Nth degree.

Has anyone else noticed a worsening of their MPG????

Mine too was very good when new and running in. On holiday 2 days after getting the car I could average 70mpg on a slow touristy site seeing trip.

The trouble is the Yeti thrives on being driven, I certainly seem to drive it harder than my previous car. Over time as we get used to the cars variables and get more performance out of it, it can only mean fuel consumption increases to pay for it.

The yeti is too much fun to drive, so just cant help chucking it about and driving a little too fast.

I keep a spreadsheet of fuel costs so from Sept to Dec last year average was 42.6

from January to March its 39.6.

Couldn't possibly be me, so I reckon the diesel must be going off.

You might think nothing has changed but it is my understanding that winter fuel has some additives in it that gives everyone circa 5mpg fuel difference.... So come summer fuel you might be back to your normal numbers again.

Nuh! This worsening of consumption aint to do with this man's right foot. I have, if anything, been a bit MORE careful because of the price of the stuff we put in!

Also, whilst accepting (sort of) the arguments about cold weather, this past few weeks has not been exceptionally cold, and certainly not in comparison with December. Nope - the difference is just too marked to be down to the vagaries of Welsh weather.

But, hey, thanks for your thoughts! And I suppose I am kinda glad no-one else has had a problem. I think the nub of my thinking is - do I need to get something checked out back at the dealer's place?

My 170 tdi is slowly improving with increasing miles and temperature. The last brim was 39 and this one is looking close to 40, I'm cheating a bit now, and trying a bit harder, but you can still go very quickly on empty lincolnshire roads...

Yeti Greenline SE, 250 miles on the clock. Really impressed with its initial fuel economy.

Mine really seems to be improving now its hit 13k on the clock. I did a 40 mile round trip the weekend and achieved just over 42mpg and that included a few examples of 'overtaking'.

8,000 on the clock now and 42mpg seems to be the best at the moment. Motorway and local, and not thrashed.

Thats great, but, even my CR140DSG will beat that.......down hill from the fuel station over a distance of 2 miles.....

So, over how many miles was that average over? What was the average speed?

The "1" means that it was the current trip, the "2" may show you what it has done since it was last 'zero'd' to get the '2' just press the r/h rocker switch on the MFSW.

Elsie the Helipad averaged a genuine 39mpg today, driving around South London in 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70mph limits, over about 85 miles. Average speed was 21mph.

That was over a trip up the A96 to Inverness and Beauly from Aberdeen return, probably round trip of just over 220 miles. Driving at no more than 60mph, from Elgin onwards and back to Elgin I took on an additional 3 Adult passengers.

Based on that additional info, I think I might have bought the wrong SMemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Alas, I need an automatic and wanted 4x4, so the greenline is no good for me. I'll have to put up with my 185bhp & autoemoticon-0136-giggle.gif and 40mpg......ish.

I reality, I would expect Elsie the Helipad to be much better on the open road like that, probably in the upper 40's, maybe lower 50's, but as I've never done a trip like that, it is hard to say, as cruising on the motorway with the aerodynamics of a brick at 70mph+ the best I have achieved is 42.6mpg.

Cruising along the French motorways, at 130kph/80mph (measured by Tom Tom rather than the optimistic Yeti speedo), cruise control engaged for 100 miles at a stretch, I was seeing over 49mpg.

Ah yes, the french motorways....my old 530d averaged 43mpg at about 80/85 down to the south of France a few years ago, the best it ever did by quite a long way. relatively straight roads, relatively flat, constant speed. All great for economy.

Best I've got was 54mpg on a variety of A/B roads, when I hit the M/way and use Cruise I get 49/50mpg.

Hi nokiauk,

Presume you are crusing at 60-65mph (on speedo) to get that mpg as it drops off drastically once you start going over 70 mph.
