what revs does the vrs limit at?

Featured Replies

simple q, what revs does the vrs limit / redline at??

mines doesnt seem to have a limiter at all!

if your in neutral put the foot on the pedal it goes to 4 k then just gets a mind of its own and whooshes right past 5.5k and onto 6k!!

its the same when its running i can rev it right past 5.5k!

its running a hybrid turbo if this is any odds and a 195bhp map!

now i have had it rr'd and the peak power is at 3950rpm? sound right for a hybrid? the peak band seems to be between 3.5k and 4.2k so i change at 4.2k just seems odd that it wants to rev and rev

I thought they limited at 5?

Should definitely have a limiter that cuts in at 5K or just over. ECU should use cam and crank sensors to limit the revs, so hybrid turbo shouldn't really come into it, unless the limiter has been effected with mapping? Boost demand, throttle position and actual boost pressure measured at the intercooler should only effect fueling to injectors (or injector period to be more precise.)

Severe risk of timing belt breaking at such high revs. The camshaft sprocket has different spacing between the teeth at the point where the camshaft operates the PD injector rockers. This weird spacing is to reduce timing belt load. Even if the belt didn't break, I could see it jumping a tooth or two.

Mine is still limited to as near as damnit 5,000 revs.

I reckon the limiters been taken off on the map!

Personally i'd see what it's limited to in a gear, like 2nd or 3rd. Not running stationary cause it must rev up so fast that the injectors shut off and it's still revving up.

Mike here revs his to 5.5k

EDIT:

Just re-read your post where you've mentioned trying it in gear. Sounds like a map modification to me.

Should be limited to protect from damage but has obviously been removed during the mapping process.

TBH a reputable mapper should not remove the rev limiter, just raise the point at wher it kicks in.

Either get it sorted out or be very aware of where you are revving it to. You don't want to have to deal with that sort of damage.

yes it will rev right upto and beyond 5.5k in gear!! i would say it runs out at about 5,750rpm, no limit just a tail off in power

i change at 4.2rpm to keep in the power band

Ohh 6k limiter diesel :) Sounds good, but will break :(

Your peak power rev wise seems abit low to me too, but maybe im just forgetting power delivery of diesels as dont use mine often!
