Upgrading stereo

Featured Replies

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading the stereo in my 54 plate Octavia.

I don't really use SatNav all that often and even when I do, I've got a portable which does the job.

I know the Columbus seems to be the stereo upgrade of choice, but there seems to be a few Boleros knocking about for a fair

chunk less cash, plus I have more reassurance that they are genuine and not removed without the owners consent.

Given I'll need to upgrade the CAN gateway at the same time, I has almost decided that the Bolero would suit my needs, but

I've read a few negative reviews about it ?

I've never heard or used either, so any views would be greatfully appreciated,

You have taken the words right out of my prosposed thread.... :giggle:

I was thinking Bolero to, but whats this about the CAN gateway, I currently have a Stream MP3, is the Bolero not just a plug 'n' play?

I prefer my tom tom sat in the top dash box for nav ( my personal choice )

So I went for a Bolero and using the SD card is fantastic never need any disc again

Well worth it - sound seems bit better than the stream- touch screen is cool

Mine is a MY08 so it has the newer can bus controller so no battery drain probs

soon I'm going to upgrade my parking controller so I get the parking display back ( again my personal choice )

How much can you get a Bolero for?

Around 200 to 300 - and there are 2 shapes: one from the octy and one from the superb

If you pick up a columbus and then decide you want a Bolero - I'll gladly swap my brand new Bolero (when it arrives) for your Columbus.. :)

Thanks for the replies, still not decided and so the dealer trip to play may be an idea...... I would probably come away with a new car mind you !

Pagey, depending on how old your car is, it may need a Can gateway upgrade to prevent the battery drain issue, so add around £100 to the cost to change. I think it needs to

be a 2007 build to accept the updated firmware fix.

Swil00, thats gone completely over my head, confusion about battery drain issues etc! Mine is a MY2006 Octavia (without maxidot) are you saying I will need this CAN upgrade, also I have heard mention of coding required with a Vag com??? this all seems to be getting expensive. I may just stick with the Stream.

Cheers, Lee.

Yeah, pretty sure yours would need the CAN upgrade and coding..... As for getting expensive, I tend to agree.... Might get the Can Upgrage fitted and coded first, then decide at a

later date whether to upgrade to Bolero or Columbus when I've hopefully got more spare cash.

Seems a bit crazy upgrading the CAN and not upgrade the stereo, but then it should (in theory) make the new stereo plug'n'play !

Its not fully "plug and play"

If you want the Climatic display on your new Bolero or Columbus then you have to change that controller too

Same goes for the parking sensors display on the newer stuff another controller upgrade and Can wires to run
