Service Interval

Featured Replies

I've finally sussed out what the problem is with the service indicator on my Fabia. Could you let me know if it's just me, or whether it applies to all Fabia's sold in this country.

My understanding was that all Fabias are on fixed service intervals of 10,000 miles or 12 months. However, the distance to service reading on my dash always seems to pop up incredibly early. For instance, at the moment it is telling me that I require a service in 300 miles, when in fact it should be more like 900. Careful perusal of the handbook over the weekend has revealed the reason. The service interval is actually 15,000km (roughly 9,300 miles) not 10,000 miles. It looks like Skoda have converted the speedometer, odometer and trip computer but have failed to convert the service intervals to imperial units. To be fair, the service book does still say 15,000km as well.

This does however, beg a further question. The service book (paraphrased) says that the next service is due at nnn miles or on date whichever comes first, or whenever your car informs you it wants one. If the car is indicating that a service is required after 9,300 miles and not 10,000 miles would this affect your warranty (or goodwill contributions to repairs out of warranty) if you simply got the car serviced at 10,000 mile intervals?

Yes the service interval is 9300 miles or 15,000Km or 365 days. Most garages still use 10,000 mile stamps so it gets confusing. While the Fabia doesn't have an oil condition sensor, I believe it can still use hours driven versus average speed, to calculate if you do a lot of short journeys. If it thinks you do a lot of short journeys, it can bring the service forward.

In the nigh on 4 years and just over 60k miles I've had my vRS,the service indicator has NEVER come on.

The car has been serviced every 10k miles. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

You'll also have to factor in the the percentage over-read built into the speedo.

i.e. If the speedo over-reads 5% then so will the mileage indicator!

So your indicated 9300miles would be more like 8835miles emoticon-0114-dull.gif
