2006 (56) TFSI VRS Questions

Featured Replies

Hello!

Very quickly i am new to the forum as this will be my first Skoda. I have owned VAG cars for years and there is not many models i have not owned. I currently have a Seat Altea 2.0l 140 TDI Sport and a 2008 Audi S3. I am moving to the Skoda as i need to free up some cash from the Audi and I can't shy away from the looks and amazing value for money from the VRS.

I am looking at a 56 plate in race blue with the full display the center console thing, dual climate, parking sensors, 17" wheels, rear elec windows, cruise and headlight washers. It does not appear to have xenons which i am a bit annoyed by but can live without as it appears to me as cheap. 80K miles FSSH at £7250? Good deal?

What stereo will this have and what options do i have for BT and IPOD? I have a Parrott MKI9200 knocking around, shall i just put this in, if so what power is the standard stereo, does it have an AUX in?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks peoples

Ant

Hi Ant, and welcome! The vRS is an awesome car and I wouldn't go back. :)

Race blue cars are worth a bit more, and you usually end up paying more than for black or silver. Personally I like my black car. ;) If you like the blue then great, if you're not fussed then you can save a few quid.

The engines are good for well past 80k, but make sure the cambelt's been done. The recommendation is 120,000 km (just under 80k) or 4 years.

What stereo it has depends on the gearbox. Manual ones come with the Stream unit and without the Maxidot kit. You need DSG to have Maxidot and bluetooth connectivity.

The Stream doesn't have an AUX socket as standard but one could be wired in (the stereo would recognise an AUX input.). The Stream is OK, but nothing more than OK and a significant stepdown from the Saab unit I used to listen to! You might want to look at pinging your own stereo in. I miss plugging in my iPod for sure.

I think you need the optional armrest as well for it to come as standard with an AUX socket as well as Maxidot. (Can anyone confirm that because I'm not sure.)

£7250 isn't too bad, but if you can get nearer £8k and don't mind a different colour, I reckon you could get a lower mileage one.

(Mine was bought in February. It was £8900, black, manual, 40k on a 56 and that was from a Skoda dealer so I'm sure you could get a decent one for a bit less privately if you want to.)

It doesn't sound a bad deal, but I'd look at a few before putting your money down on this.

(Edited because I was an idiot and put Bolero instead of Stream!)

Thanks. It has the full display thing, i thought that was the maxidot?? Just called a DIS in VW/Audi, full or half. It is a manual and i like the blue. Either that or Red.

As for the stereo i am coming from an Audi BOSE unit so i may have to upgrade?

It does have the armrest thing and is independent dealer...

Thanks, i have looked at loads and this is the only one so far that has the spec i want - the xenons.

A 56 plate car won't have the Bolero unless it's been fitted afterwards, I would have expected it to have the Stream radio...

There may be an AUX socket in the front armrest, there is in my FaceLift vRS...

If you are coming from a BOSE system then I don't think it matters which stereo you end up with it will be a significant step backwards emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

It depends on which Saab stereo you had before as to whether it's an downgrade or not... My poverty spec 9-3 Airflow had the worst Stereo I've ever had in a car... and the Bolero is a step up emoticon-0100-smile.gif

The MaxiDot is the display between the dials on the dash, and if a 56 plate car has a full height display there it will be maxidot, the non-maxidot versions had a half height display there. You are correct, MaxiDot is what Audi call DIS

I have to admit, from the initial post when you said full display in the centre console I took that as meaning it had SatNav rather than Maxidot...

My appologies yes i meant the display between the clocks. It does have Xenons and i have managed to get it to £7K? Is that good or should i continue looking?? Others i have seen may have a lot less mileage for say £1k more but they don't have the spec...

*egg faced*

Sorry, I'm a plonker. I meant Stream and because I had Bolero in my head, I typed Bolero... I've edited my above post to correct it.

And to give you a sense of scale AjM, mine doesn't have xenons or SatNav. And sorry for the confusion, my stereo is STREAM. So 7k seems like a good price if it's a sound car.

now i am in a quandry. I have found a red one with all the internals i want, (dual climate, maxi dot etc) but no parking sensors, xenons or headlight washers. It is red with 34K on the clock for £8k... oh dear, i am leaning towards the blue one...

Does the red one have 18s? That would tip me towards the red.

But then I compromised on wanting blue to get a lowish mileage car in good condition for a good price.

The red one does have 18's yes but that is not good for me i like 17"s. Bit more rubber to cope with the appalling roads we pay so much for.

Sure, I can understand that. Nearly lost my fillings last night cycling home from work. Less a pothole and more something you fly down to destroy the Deathstar.

The difference isn't as big as you think for the vRS. Tried both the 17" and the 18" version. 17" was slightly more forgiving, but the 18" setup is easy to live with even with less forgiving surfaces. Do try both.

Well i picked up the blue one yesterday and i love it! It turns out to be a much higher spec than i (and the dealer) thought and does have 18" wheels and i must say compared to the S3 the ride is very comfortable. I am so impressed with the car it is great. Nice and quick but handles beautifully!!

Very happy!

Thanks FRS all your help and i have managed to buy a lead that gives me aux in (in the form of 2 phonos), pre preouts for my amp and full control of my MKI9200 as well so even more chuffed!! Plus i would like to say i think the stereo is fine, no it is not a BOSE setup but not bad at all.

Nice to know you're a happy punter. Enjoy your vRS! :D
