If i lower my car am i likely to get more traction, even in the dry in 2nd gear my asr keeps cutting in and killing the power/stopping the wheels from spinning :giggle:

I need more traction to get the power down.

Lowering your car wont have much effect if any of traction :(

The cheapest options are to be more gentle with the throttle :D

Failing that decent tyres and a LSD will be your best bets but not the cheapest. It will always be a problem with high ish power FWD cars :)

For the OP, definitely not, because lowering will increase negative camber, lifting the outer edges of the front tyres off the road until the car goes into roll.

I'm with westallc - turn off asr and be sensible with the right pedal.

Wrong Wheel Drive has crap traction designed in, just have to live with it.

Only real improvement will come from LSD and the best tyres you can afford to wear out in 8000miles..

Agreed, it's primative at best and dangerous at worst. I get much better starts without it on.

No reason why that couldn't be driven without wheel spin, throttle progression is a fine art. What are your tyres like?

ok the general concensus seems to be switch the asr off, i shall give it a whirl. i just hope my tyres can cope :D

Just make sure its a dry day and be progressive with the throttle pedal :) Can be made to work well but 1st and 2nd can be easy to light up :dull:

They can do, mine has thrown the traction control on in second before in damp conditions if I haven't accelerated smoothly.

I can't see why particularly; the TDi110 has more torque and a faster torque rise, but doesn't really have an issue with traction.

You're right about the T1-Rs, and they certainly transformed the grip compared with the Dunlops that the car had when I bought it.

I can't comment on that as I ain't driven one :)

I was thinking changing up into second the derv has more weight to push down on the driven wheels hence more grip, I reckon the 16's would grip better in a striaght line due to the width of the 17's tramlining but in the corners the 17's width would win the day. I find unless your loading up the shocks with a bit of power the rs is a little skitish anyway.

ANother thought is that the derv has less overall power so handles better on it's on own limit if you get what I mean (I'm not sure I do !!)

And all this ASR off is BS, I've never had a problem with it on. If it cuts in its because your over cooking it with right foot.

ASR is a right pain in the rear.

I can pull away from the lights with my foot heading to the floor rapidly with the minutest slip of the wheels which tells me I have it right where I want it.

ASR when you are drifting into corners can kill the power which can cause major understeer, enough to try and spit me into a set of railings on a road I use a lot.

With ASR off the car slides slightly yet with the application of a bit more power it is all good :)

It's never caused me a problem, and I get an average 24 mpg and 9k out of set of fronts if I'm lucky lol

Unlike some Rs owners who average 35 mpg and have magic tyres that last forever lol

I know what you mean about the MPG, I have NEVER got good MPG, but then I didn't really expect to :giggle:

I took Clive out in mine a couple of weekends ago and showed him what it was like to slide round a corner but I made sure the ASR was definitely off.

When you get into the corner and the wheels start to break away, not in a bad way, the ASR can cut in and the corner becomes a whole different ball game, in my experience anyways lol

ASR is far to touchy for my liking. Going from a FWD 260 brake ZR Turbo. to my 220 brake skoda the asr is useless and not needed. Much better starts and cornering can be done with it off.
