Cruise Control problem

Featured Replies

For the last wee while i've been having an issue with my cruise control and i dunno if it's something in the system or the switch/stalk itself

Whenever u press the set button it doesn't always work unless u push the bit to accelerate the car, but upon doing this the cruise control switches off and the car just bogs down due to no acceleration from me on the pedal. If i pull and hold it it'll accelerate but soon as i let go it bogs down again, It's happening more and more frequently now. So could it be something with the stalk itself? I do use it alot as the biggest majority of my driving is motorway so it's nice to just sit and not have to do any work :giggle:

So am i looking at a new stalk or is there something else i should check/worry about? I'm about to go and spend a grand on the car getting the clutch, flywheel, bushes and alignment done. So least if i know i need a new stalk it can get fitted by the mechanics doing the rest of the work

Cheers peeps

Ask mechanic for his opinion prior taking car to garage perhaps. ??

Ya know I actually didn't give that one a thought lol

It's a skoda mechanic doing it as a homer so at least I know he knows his way around the car

Brake pedal switch?

I had the same problem - Robinsons in Norwich fixed it a squirt of foaming electrical cleaner. Apparently the switches collect all sorts of dust and sweat and stuff inside so they sometimes just need a darned good clean. It is a poor design though. The new one with the third stalk is MUCH better.

I'm gonna get the new style stalk. It'll save any hassle and I prefer how it looks to the current one

Brake pedal switch? Dumb question but is that the bit that controls ur brake lights? If so my brake lights all work and aren't jammed on or anything. Handy part of the vrs is I can see my third brake light in the mirror when it's lit up lol and my mrs uses the car so I watch her drive it away so I can see if any bulbs are out

Hammer ;)

If not gaffer tape :giggle:

If not get Mike B to scan it on the 21st?

Lol I'm hoping Mike will be kind enough to turn off the double locking as it's still a feature I hate

I'm starting to order the parts to sort the car tonight so will just get the mechanic to fit the new stalk then check it out from there. I do use it alot so chances are it's what was said above about muck and crud stuck in it

CC is connected to the brakes via the pedal switchemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Said switch has 2 contacts one for the lights and the other to disengage the CC to save you from slamming into whatever's in your wayemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

And yes I'll do you a scan!

Would a vagcom scan show up a fault in the brake switch?

Would a vagcom scan show up a fault in the brake switch?

Not that I'm aware of! But a new switch is under a tenner!

Probably better to change that before my stalk then perhaps

I have a Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate TLD 2007 and have an intermitant fault with the Cruise Conrol cutting out. I have narrowed it down to it only happening when either the engine has been running for a long time and or the weather is hot. It comes back to life when everything cools down. The brake lights work OK. Any thoughts please?
