VAG CR 170 Diesel engine known problem

Featured Replies

Was informed yesterday that hesitation problem on 170 BHP is a known problem across the VAG group. There is no fix for this as yet or time scale for any possible fix.

They also said that if a fix becomes available you will need to ask your dealer to do it. They will not just do it at the next service.

Apparently the VW dealer across the road from Skoda has had several VW's with the same problem.

is that the hesitation problem when going over bumps and getting negative G?

What hesitation problem is this? Can't say I've noticed anything untoward in the first 9000 miles or so...

I get some hesitation but put it down to a combination of turbo lag and down shifts from the DSG.

Can you be more specific please?

This is the only thing that I am aware of. More info please.

Its the hestition when you go over humps or are cornering. Apparently it is known within the VAG group.

Just trying to pass some useful info back

is this a new thing or since introduction of the CR 170? I dont have any issues noticeable with my 58 plate... :S

Can't say I've noticed anything either, only delay I've experienced is when flooring the throttle and the DSG taking half a second or so to work out what gear it want's to be in... and that's nothing to do with the engine...

Mines a 59 plate registered in January this year

It appears some do it some don't. Mine being quite troublesome does.

mine does it as reported in the other thread. Mines an early CR170 from june 2008 on a 58 plate. I was planning to ask the dealer about mine when im next in for service

Just spoke to Skoda UK again about this and they still maintain it is a characteristic of the engine and therefore no fix is available. If you find out anything different could you please post a reply.

Many Thanks

Surely if it was a characteristic of the engine it would affect everyone? Or am I being thick?

No Brummie comments please, I'm not originally from there emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

I suspect they just don't know why some cars do this.

Mine is a 58 plate from nov 2008 and either I dont recognise the fault characteristic, or mine doesnt do it :

Very happy with my car, and like others said, only time I feel any "lag" is when flooring it and DSG does its kickdown thing.

Dont notice problems over speed bumps :S

WTF....

Never heard of it or had it.

Your original post indicates that its well known..it obviously isnt...

or

...an issue.

Thanks anyway

59 plate 58 build (don't ask!) - no issue whatsoever. Is this a manual or DSG specific issue?

I've had it on my DSG, must admit it's nothing that's ever worried me - just a slight dip in the power after you crest a hill or humpback bridge...I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read that thread...

Why do people always give others a hard time for posting what is a genuine bit of information that I was given from a VW head Tech who told me it was well known within VAG circles.

Did I say it was rife amoungst all cars . I did not . I simply said IF you have this problem the VAG group know about it.

In future I will look after myself and not bother posting any other hopefully helpful info.

To be fair ChrisRS did apologise in a later post.

That said it isn't necessarily easy to get across the real meaning of peoples feelings etc in writing on a forum and sometimes people >do< scaremonger so perhaps we should ALL give the benefit of doubt when posting emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thanks for the info Skodafang. It would be nice to have some kind of evidence from your VW Tech to go with this so that perhaps people who are suffering from the issue can persue a fix more easily.

Just trying to help people who might have the same problem. I hope that no one else has the same problem with there car.

The VW tech said he had been in contact with VW UK ref a fix becuase he had several VW customers complaining of the same problem. As yet he hadn't had a response.
