Went to work this morning car started fine no problems drove fine for 3 miles 15mins ish as it was busy stopped there for an hour got back in car then bad times started her up no problem then

warning lights while running

power stearing light on

esp on

tc on

engine managment on

hand break light flashing on/off and beeping 3 times

turned it off took key out started it up agian and same as above so turned off checked all fluids all fine called AA arrived with in 20 mins plugged it in to the OBII port we got in the van and he accessed the ecu fault codes only code was (P0600) external equipment attached i think this was probable from when it was tuned (probable what a garage would see if they where checking your ecu for warrenty issues?) other than that nothing else???? i said i had heard that the fabia's are realy sensative to battery power level and when they are getting to the end of there life a side affect is engine warning lights comeing up

he checked the charge going into the battery and it was 14 volts so about right so not the alternator and when not running it had 12 volts but thats not saying its holding its charge as he didnt have a battery tester with him. but the lights went out on there own then when we started it.

now it was cold this morning so the short drive may not have been enough to charge the battery so does anyone know if this could be the case want to make sure i solve this issue before i got to the nurburgring next week so any advice would be grate and one thing that did make me chuckle when he was packing up he said if this happens again its not a brake down issue and to just drive it to my local skoda garage so apperently its a good idea to drive your car when you have your dash board lite up like a crimbo tree "IDIOT" told him that as well

Battery test would be easiest thing to do, either local garage may have one or alternatively you could (on the morning before you start the car) multimeter the battery to see what's the reading (IIRC under 11.x is iffy).

If its dead battery though I would've thought it wouldnt have enough crank to start the car.. :wonder: And when the car is running I would've thought it would have enough juice to run the electrics (since the alternator is working fine). I also never knew fabia's have sensitive to electricity.. thought it was only japanese cars :giggle: .

Oh sorry, to clarify.. multimeter test is only to see the voltage, if its low it implies that its either not charged fully since last drive OR its dead. However if the voltage looks OK theres still a chance that its dead until you actually put some decent load on it e.g. shunt/battery tester.

I think the questionable point of a battery in Voltage is ~10.6v,

Straight forward thing I know but have you also checked the water in the battery? I could act as if its dead if its got no deionising water.

HTH.

its sealed

Battery is faulty if it reads under 12.5 volts after standing for 12 hours. Diesels clobber batteries, and the standard battery is pants. They barely last 2 years. Go for the heavy duty one from Halfords £99

We are having similar problems with our 1.4 mpi , the 2 pin connector on the alternator , which I think powers the dashboard battery light, looks to be broken and works its way loose and stops the battery charge,.

Anyone know if this connector can be replaced ? or anyone got a tip for keeping for keeping it in place?

Sorry for hi jacking this thread.

Quick update:

Just in case anyone else needs this info, it is possible to buy the connector for £10.00 from Skoda. My soloution: superglue , does exactly what it says on the box.
