vrs suspension, rear seems soft and my 18's are catching

Featured Replies

hi folks, haven't posted on here in a fair while now but i need some advice i don't seem to be able to find elsewhere.

my vrs is sat on 18x8 oz superlegerra with 225/40/18 tyres, i'm not sure of the offset of the wheels as they were fitted when i got the car. it's also lowered on eibach springs but again not sure how much as it was done when i got the car.

the back seems to have gone very soft, it seems ok on a bounce test as in if i push the back down it bounces back and settles without keeping going. every bump in the road though i'm getting the tyres scrubbing the rear arches or arch liners (can't see anything but can hear it when driving).

i'm thinking about changing the rear dampers as it's a easy enough job but i can't find any listed anywhere and would hate to think what skoda would charge for them :-\

need to get it sorted out as i'm off to france in it in august and as it stands at the moment if i put much more than an empty carrier bag in the back it's scrubbing!

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

As far as I am aware Eibach did not make springs for a Mk1 vRS,so they may your problem.

Eibach "DO NOT" make a specific spring for the Mk1 Octy vRS, and whilst they may fit, the poundage is totally wrong and will cause problems as mentioned.

Trust me, been there, tried that over the years, and ended up with KW3 coilovers that actually work as they should.

Thanks for the replies folks, all sounds a bit suspect now I'll have to check through the files I have with the car to double check those springs but the poundage being wrong does sound likely as it's so easy to shove the back end down. Who makes decent springs for the vrs? Don't really fancy the expence of coilovers.

I have weitec springs fitted that I bought from Awesome. They have been fine, apart from I had to buy uprated Dampeners as the standard ones even though they had only covered 29k wasn't dampening enough with the uprated springs.

as above, my brother has had springs on both his octys

kws on the 1st

weitec on the 2nd

both with 225/40/18s and had no issues

goodluck mate, hope you get it sorted

It's easy to check for tyres rubbing in the arches. Jack the car up, remove a rear wheel, and have a good look inside the arch for very clean bits, or places where the paint's been rubbed off.
