Fitting a boost guage

Featured Replies

I've already searched, and found Rob's link to his "www.pimpmyskoda.co.uk" site (Great work man! ) and a few other threads.

Thing is, although, it shows where to plumb the T-piece on the fuel pressure regulator, I was wondering where i would have to connect it to a power source, what to watch out for, and as well, where is the best place to pass all the wires through the fire wall without removing too much of the dash ect.

One thing I would like to know is, is it as easy as it seem's to attach the T-piece? Like, is it just cut, incert, and away we go?

Any info/pics/links to threads on here i might have missed would be a great help. I'd like to do the job myself, so I can learn, but at the same time, I'm quite intimadated by the AUQ engine as it's like nothing I've ever worked on before.

Thanks lads)

Yep dead easy to insert. Better still to get a short piece of silicon or rubber hose and use that to connect the T-piece in case you want to go back to standard.

Check out this guide: http://www.pimpmyskoda.co.uk/Amp%20Cable.htm; for the location of a decent sized grommet to the cabin - all you need to do is remove the glove box which is 5 torx screws and unplug the connector for the light.

Stick around here - there are loads of people who know this car and engine inside out and can help with problems and mods

Thanks for the comments on my website by the way :D

I just fitted mine last week. I cut and inserted the T-piece on the line that goes to the top of the DV as I figured that going all the way to the fuel regulator would be too close to the engine and the cable might melt. Then passed it through the firewall as Rob said (although my car being left-hand-drive it was on the steering wheel side :)). Inside I just tested some wires going to the fuse-box for a plus on pre-ignition and attached to those, then passed all the wires (pressure + power) up the side of the dash so they're not that visible, masked them with some tape and that was that.

One tip, depending on the size of the pressure cable and the T-piece, you might have a hard time pushing it it (I did). What you can do is just use a lighter to warm it up a bit, then it goes it pretty easily.

I used one of the connections at the back of the headlight switch for a switched live.

To remove the headlight switch, with the switch in the "OFF" position, push in on the switch until you feel some resistance, and then, with the switch still pushed in, turn it clockwise, and pull it out.

I used the live to the glovebox to power the lights in my gauges, means the come on with the rest of the dash lights & it's easy to do as you already have the glovebox out to feed through the cables

mines wired straight into the ignition so lights up as soon as you turn the key. mine vac hose is threaded through into the engine bay under the drivers side scuttle through the big grommet and was t pieced into the dv but now into the fuel pressure regulator

Mine just plugs straight into the OBD port

@Rob: Any idea what colour the live was on the light switch?

@chicken_eyebrow: I hate you! Where did you get one that can do that?

And was it just a case of plug in and play?

Yep, it gets the command boost and actual boost pressures from the sensors on the car, same way Vag-Com would.

Deadly! Might look into getting one of them in a few months. Untill then i was going to have a single boost guage that will do. Want to get one of the holders to replace the drivers side air vent(so if anyone on here around munster has one for sale let me know! ).

Right'o lads! Thanks for the info and i'll let ye know how i get on! ;)

I used the black and red wire - proper switched live :)

Forgive the ignorance, but what do you mean "proper switched live"?

Also, I'm not too good with electrics, Did you wire the earth to the black wire and live to red?

To be honest I have no idea what I meant :p :dull:

It switches on with the ignition and cuts while the starter motor cranks which has to be good. I have my gauges and DRLs wired to it.
