Lowering vRS

Featured Replies

Ive done a few searches, but havent really found what im looking for yet.

Most seem to have gone down the Eibach springs route when lowering, but im not sure how it will sit. (if its still going to be a bit high)

Can anyone get a side on view of how their car sits when its lowered on springs and let me know which kit you have used.

Im swaying towards a set of FK High Tech springs for a 40mm drop, but any pictures to help me decide please.

40mm? Bloody hell that's low. No speed bumps near you then? Standard ground clearance on the vRS is only 128mm and I'd want more than 88mm clearance on my car...

I'm toying with the idea of about a 20mm drop

Not really.

a_waugh - Why don't you just get coilovers so if you do run into any issues running too low, you can just raise it up a bit?

I think mine's just about a 50mm drop for reference...

Went for a set of -30mm PI's on mine, about 100 quid delivered, been on for about 4 months now, with no problems. Given time I will probably change to adjustable coilovers, as wega3k states, if you have ride height issues you change alter it to suit, most offer a range of between 30 - 65mm.

Anyhow, heres a picture of mine.

Below is my car the day I got it, for a reference point the tyres were wrong 225/45 R18 so slightly deeper profile than the above picture!

I would also look at Brimma's recent post, he has just added V-Maxx coilys (30 - 70mm) adjustment, which he got from German ebay, see below link.

Just measured the clearance under mine from the fuel cooler and the two lip things near the rear (think they shield the brake lines). In both cases, I've got just under 8cm, so assuming that's where the official ground clearance measurement goes from, it does look like I've got a 50mm drop. I catch on some speed cushions and not others. I reckon 40mm should be speed bump safe.

I do catch a couple of sleeping policemen near my house, but to be fair they could be pregnant as they are extremely feking high.......

How much is it for a set of coilovers?

How much is it for a set of coilovers?

Depends how much you want to pay really, and where you source them from

Budget anywhere from £300 + fitting upwards

that sounds sweet,thanks

Pagey - measure those speed bumps that you catch on and if they're bigger than regulation get them removed or downsized. Frigging things. Toss pot councils were allowed to run riot with these things in the 90s and 00s.

This post has helped me out big time as i have just bought a set of BBS CHs and im looking at the way your car is sitting and i like it.

I have looked into FK Sport Edition+ coilovers as my mate is a dealer for FK and they have the 6 point damping adjustable control on them. Had them on my Ibiza and they were excellent.

Cheers wega3k.

I also like the ways yours is sitting Pagey1255. I just want to take the height off it if im honest and yours sits well.

Need to make my mind up.

Just to throw in my 2p worth

That's about a 30mm drop

I like that. The size of the wheels match the shape of the arch well at that height. Almost the same all the way round.

Yours sits great aswell Brimma.

Where would I find the regulations on heights etc.................I will make it my new mission

Edit: Just found the Regulations, apparently the max height is 100mm from the centre of the road/carriage way, from that I can guarantee the ones near me exceed that by quite a bit......Microsoft is open, and the letter has begun!

I only did the springs on mine as when I got the car it was sitting on 225 45 R18 tyres, so I changed them to the correct 225 40 R18 and it looked like a Scout on stilts :giggle: , + the wedge for the remap and Evoms intake, I couldn't afford much more than the Pi's, if not for these factors I would definately have gone the coil over route for versitlity and quality, and the V-Maxx set Brimma is running represent all of this plus extreme value for money!

By the way, thanks for the complement on the car. :)

The benefits of coilovers are you can get the height exactly how you want it which is perfect when your not quite sure what drop your after but know visually how you want it to sit.

The down side is they can be a bit harsher on the road then springs and shocks.

Lowered mine using the Skoda (Eibach) lowering springs straight from the dealer. Very happy with the result. I'll try and post some pics of mine and my brother's side by side - mine lowered, his stock.

Sarge.

That would be perfect Sarge. Cheers mate.

I too would like to see that

Moley,

Slightly off topic, but are you selling the FR when the vRS comes calling?

This may help (although it is a Mk1) My vRS is on Eibach springs and I am more than happy with how the car sits, and also how it rides. There is someone on this forum who has a had a bad experience with Eibach springs and slams them any time someone metions them saying that they dont make them for Octavia's.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/161823-wheel-spacers-fitted-on-vrs/

I can only imagine that I didn't fit them right beacuse I have had many sets on many VAG cars and I cannot knock the Eibach's for price, quality, handling, ride height. The car is remapped and I suffer no understeer, the car is planted and you're always confident that the car can handle what you chuck at it.

Oh and sorry.............on the topic of v-maxx coilovers. Do your research as they are branded under numerous different names and have seen prices range from around £200 - £450 on ebay.

I cannot remeber what they were called (google it you will find them) but I bought them directly from the manufacturer in Belgium for my girlfriends MK1 Golf and paid £160 delivered. They are never going to compare to top end coilovers, but for the money I must say they are excellent!

Moley,

I will be yes probably in September

Ive spoken to my mate and ive ordered a set of FK High-Tec Springs. They say 35mm-40mm drop so should sit exaclty where i want it. Managed to get them for a very good price aswell.

Once i get the wheels on, i will do a before and after picture of them on. Hopefully have them on before GTI International. :D
