Engine management and EGR valve

Featured Replies

Last November the EGR valve and gaskets were renewed together with some cleaning at a cost of £255 by a Skoda dealer. Last week the light came on again and another Skoda dealer has diagnosed that the EGR valve is once more at fault and has to be replaced, estimate £273. What would be a reasonable response by the first Skoda dealer in respect of the doubtful original repair?

Aren't the parts under a 12 month warranty from the Skoda dealer? I'd have thought they were...

I'd be taking it back to them for a diagnosis and explanation...

i'd avoid the dealer altogether at those prices. i had mine replaced at half the price by a skoda specialist who i would highly recommend if you are near the Nottingham area?

it must have a 12mth warranty...even if it didnt you can buy an egr valve off ebay for £80 and its no more than an hours labour.

what engine do you have. I believe that with the petrol engines you can have issues with the pipe which feeds into the bottom of the EGR valve becoming blocked which causes problems with the EGR valve. There isn't actually anything wrong with the EGR valve itself.

Unfortunately the dealers are slaves to the diagnostics and if a certain code comes up they replace the EGR valve as this what Skoda specify you do for that code, but may not actually be the root cause of the problem.

If it is only six months since it was changed I would be straight back to the original dealer asking for it to be put right and then complain to Skoda if the right answer is not forthcoming.

Id buy an Allard EGR pipe and blanking plate and have done with it
