Well, I've just completes a 1200 mile round trip to the Nurburgring this weekend and am glad to say I encounted just one problem with the car.

I completed 3 1/2 laps of the ring, 140mph 3 up with luggage on the Autobhan and the only thing to go wrong with the car was when I set my brakes on fire after my 1st full lap of the ring. I soon learned to use the brakes less and the engine more!

(pic taken on the half lap warm up from our hotel so not much "G" going on on the outside of the carousel!)

Awesome, glad to hear it went well - I see you had some good weather too!

We're off out in two VRS's on Friday, keeping our fingers crossed that the weather holds up. How much was petrol in the end?

YEah weather was pretty god on our day!

Fuel over there was 1.45 euros/litre for 98ron and where we stayed they even had 102ron on tap!!!

That's not too bad then - that's £1.21 per litre, only a penny more than I paid in Tescos tonight! Good times! :)

I hit 140 and she was still pulling!

My biggest concern was that the simply awesome Nankang tyres were just going to melt!

I have soo got to go back there, awesome place.

How did you fare IN the Karousel? did you clout the bottom of the car on the way through on a quick lap?

I missed the carousel every time I went round because there were just hundreds of 911s blasting round into every corner quicker than I was.

I'd have been a hazard if I'd gone for it. Maybe next time though (should be April then September again in 2011)

that's a shame, it's a real buzz going through there, once you're in the bottom of it you can accelerate as hard as you like and it will just go round :D just make sure you don't come out wide at the top or it will spit you out across the wrong side of the track

Just got back from our trip and managed to survive four laps, both the cars have done over 140k miles so it was a miracle they got there and back in one piece and still managed to do a few laps!

We followed an old Alfa 75 into the Karrusel which dropped a large piece of plastic trim right in front of us then managed to clout his exhaust on the way out making a pretty shower of sparks :D wish one of us had caught it on video.

We got the 2nd lap on video - some interesting overtaking by a Boxster driver :D

Overtaken by a Suzuki Swift! The shame.....

Looks like you lads had a fun one!

Like the video and the co-drivers :)

LOL thats me in the back trying to give directions (and calling Brunchen "Breidscheid")

I think I might save up for next year and rent something out there, the Suzukis are very well specc'ed (and more importantly fully insured :giggle: )

Yeah I think if I went again, I'd get full insurance for a couple of days. It'll cost a bomb, but it's worth it.

Last time I went I just sort of charged in there without a care in the world, and had loads of fun! In hindsight, so much can go wrong so easily. It's not so much me crashing, it's more me crashing into a 911 GT3 as I spin off (and having to buy a new 911 and myself a new Skoda), or some berk in a Boxter cutting me up and smashing me into a wall and driving off leaving me to pay for a new car out of my pocket and all the track repair crap.

The track must make so much money from over excited mugs wrecking their cars!

Apparently they put up armco prices this year, and they charge for replacement even if you've just scraped it.

I haven't taken my own car for the last two years, too paranoid about hitting a biker or something :o

looks like loads of fun!! just a tad irritating having to keep backing off and moving over for everything faster :(

TBH it's much better to back off and let people past on your terms - if you don't they'll only force their way past, and that's when accidents happen.

There will always be someone faster than you on the the track - the important thing to do is to take your ego out and put it in the boot for the ride around. Even when I got overtaken by something ridiculous (which happened quite a lot), it didn't matter, I was on my lap, they were on theirs.

I certainly would be reluctant to do a lap without someone else in the car to spot incoming traffic, and I must say Adam and Chicken and BCP did a sterling job letting me know what was coming.

Those swifts are actually f=pretty, errr.... swift! All on semi slicks with decent suspension so they handle the twistier parts a lot better than a lot of bigger specced cars out there.

Totally agree with everything you've said there. I've done a few track days and it's always satisfying to see the noob who thinks he can bully his way through traffic lose it on the next bend. Let them by and drive safe every time!

Hmmm.... I'm going on Tuesday for a few days and that video has put the **** up me somewhat! So much going on and an impossibly complex string of corners to try and remember :S
