Don't try to remember anything, there are way too many corners and if you haven't been there before the games etc. that have the track on don't show things like the massive gradient changes. You only learn the track after doing it, and unless you have the course notes or something to learn it would take you at least 50 laps to have it down well enough to be able to watch for traffic and drive the lap fast.

I deliberately didn't do any research before I went, so I had a vague idea of the track shape, but nothing more. That meant I was in no danger of misremembering any part of the track, and overcooking anything. I strongly recommend taking your first lap very steadily. If you can't cope with people in slower cars overtaking you (it will happen a lot even on your 'fast' laps) then I recommend you don't go. If your ego can handle that, it's amazing!

It also helps to have someone who knows the track well to give you directions and let you know where some of the slow corners are. One to be especially aware of is Adenauer Forst (I think) which is where I came close to the kerb on the second video (I say "I see what you mean") it's much, MUCH tighter than you think and comes to you almost totally blind. I was lucky in that I had Chicken with me on my laps who did an amazing job of keeping me on the black stuff.

Don't let the videos put you off - I have no sense of my own (or anyone else's :p) mortality and am terminally stupid so I was spanking round the track trying to squeal the tyres at every opportunity.

/edit The other important thing to remember is what I wrote above - get people to overtake you on YOUR terms. Indicate right and pull over to let people know it's safe to come by.

The only vaguely hairy moments I had was from the Boxster and the Fabia that undertook me, and neither of them were really scary...

don't forget the Focus that crept up on you on Dottinger Hohe as you were trying to pass that Audi... it was in Simons blindspot :o

This was why I said not to lift off at the bottom of Fuchsrohre: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBScbK_rlWA

I have no issues at all with being overtaken and I will be keeping out of the way wherever possible! I was just surprised by how much traffic you encounter on a lap. I was also surprised about the amount of mega quick machinery that came past, all driven by people who looked like they knew the track inside out.

There are two of us going but we are both going for the first time. Still, it will be good to have an extra set of eyes on the mirrors.

Just wanted to give an update after my slightly anxious post before. Yesterday I did my first two laps of the Nordscliefe and it was... bloody brilliant!

I will fully admit to bricking it quite severely before hand but once out there it was such amazing fun! Traffic wasn't a problem really, just a quick check before moving across the track to make sure there is nothing there and all is well. I backed off and indicated right when quicker cars started to catch up so they could carry on, by far the least stressful way of dealing with it.

The only thing I did miss out on doing was getting into the karousel. Whilst I didn't encounter that much traffic on both laps it was an easy way to let cars pass to stay high. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be back one day ;)

Update: Wheel Colour?

Been a while since I updated this thread as I was going to sell but have decided to hang onto until I can afford my camper van!

So, time for the next little update. I've decided to have the BBS alloys refurbed as the winter has been unkind to them (minor scratches on the surface, tar spots etc)and they need new tyres so I'm having them stripped down next week and powder coated a colour of my choice before having new tyres fitted (hopefully just in time for FCS)

Car as it is:

Choices of colour are:

As they are Silver

Darker silver

Anthracite (metallic)

Light gold

Red

Opinions?

Red would look ace!!

There's a black mk4 bolf round my way with red bbs's and it looks mint

Managed to sneak "Le Vengabus" in through the gates at the recent French Car Show with www.saxperience.com

Note the newly powder coated rims in dark anthracite and metallic laquer finish, newly painted red *ashamed* calipers and cheeky new badges :p

Sorry about the shoody pictures. These were nabbed from others that took pics at the show.

Here's how the wheels look close up:

Looks really nice that mate. If it were mine I'd tint the back Windows.

Nice looking car, the red calipers and Skoda badges go well together.

Must admit some aftermarket wheels can ruin the appearance of a car, but those look good.

Cheers guys. You may not have noticed the badges are Citroen flavoured for the recent FCS show :D

That is a nice looking car Craig!

How do you find the Joms? They're only coilivers at the front aren't they?

Cheers mate.

The JOM's are alright for road driving - nice and firm compared to standard but have proven to be fairly pants on a track.

The fronts have complete adjustable coilover units, bus as with all setups for the Octavia the rear strut and coilover spring are seperate, but it does allow up to 80mm of travel on the back

have you taken then on track mate? What was the handling like? So are the rears softer than the fronts? My weitecs were lovely on track but possibly a little hard on road, but then I have got them dropped pretty low

Sounds about right, coilovers for the road but not for track, but then coilovers for track and not for road make a horrible road car lol. I had Tein coilovers on my old Scooby - the worst thing that I have ever driven bar none lol.

Looks like all you need now is some brakes up to the task!

Joms arent alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who said that?????

They are cheap rubbish for 17 year olds to fit to corsas to make it look cool

They are soo wollowey its not good at all, fgar to soft for what you need, hardly any difference on a B road compared to the standard set up, infact the standard stuff is better!

The budget JOM bluelines are the ones you're referring to. I have the Redline's. Tard. ;)

Hi mate,

Did you have any fitting issues with the Piper exhaust? or was it bolt straight on....

Only a garage is telling me I need to take mine back to get it cut down for fitting :(

Its on now, but its poking out the bumper a few inches, and its not hung at all in the middle.

Onve the old exhaust had been cut off it was pretty straight forward tbh

Is it that yours isn't pushed far enough into the centre section???

I had to tie wrap my back box up on the rear mount as well as having the rubber so I could get it exactly where I wanted it as it hangs to the left unsupported :|

So you've obviously used them?

So you've obviously used them?

Yeap had JOM, SPAX, KW variant 1-3 and not just on a mk4 platform various Group N and A set ups on various cars!

To be fair though SPAX RSX's are very good

A lot of adjustment in them, although you can only adjust the bump and rebound in equal ammounts, still a good set up
