Fabia/Ibiza/Polo

Featured Replies

ok, now we have the price for the New VRS of £15.7 i was exploring the other options and it dosent make sence

Skoda Fabia VRS = £15,700

Seat Ibiza Cupra = £16,545

VW Polo GTI = £18,275

i dont get it what made the VW badge so expensive?

Don't know if it makes any difference but the Fabia is on the older PQ24 platform whilst the Polo and Ibiza are on the newer PQ25 platform.

ok get that but why the £2K difference between the Seat and VW then if there both PQ25?

Must be down to brand perception, marketing and what manufacturers think they can get away with. I thought the Yeti was overpriced but lots of people on here formed a queue with cheque books at the ready. Ford have hiked their prices as much as 32% on some fiestas this year. You can only vote with your feet I suppose.

I thought the new Fabia had a different chassis to the MK1?

The other alternatives are:

Seat Ibiza FR TDI (2.0 CR 143 PS, 6 speed manual) = £16,495

Sear Ibiza FR TSI (1.4, 150PS, 7 speed DSG) = £14,995

HonestJohn - SEAT Ibiza FR Twin Test

Having said that, all the cars in the first post, have the same engine and gearbox.

The extra 2K for the Polo over the Fabia is consistant over the entire range.. To the point that you can get a much better trimmed Fabia and still save yourself a significant wad of money.

But hey theres people out there willing to pay extra for a badge. Volkswagen is just exploiting their ignorence..

We have looked at all three over the past few weeks before deciding on the Fabia.

The Ibiza is bottom of the pile for interior quality - maybe it is the same materials as the Fabia, but the execution isn't to my liking and I'm sure the plastics were a bit more "shiny" than the Fabia.

The Fabia is next, feels a step up and whilst the interior might not be "exciting" it does have a grown-up feel to it.

The Polo is best with a squidgy dash, a few more "softer" touches here and there.

But as the post above says, is it worth £2k+ more than a Fabia? No way. And the choice of engine/gearbox options for the Fabia are better than the Polo (1.2TSI DSG for example - can't get that in the Polo).

Just my opinion anyway.

Are they?

Many people would rather own a Golf than a Fabia... Same as many would rather own a Jaguar, than a Mondeo!

The prices reflect what you are willing to pay for a designer label....... Ralph loren or Florence and Fred? Also, MANY people are still put off buying Skoda's as they were absolute Sh-rubbish back in the 70's/80's and that sort of stigma is hard to shift! Where are Lada's today? In the 80's, I would (DID)have had one of them over a Skoda, any day!

VW's are trendy, Skoda's are safe and reliable... What makes 'em wet?

Remember, Skoda was a low budget car to start with, it has only got more expensive SINCE being owned by the sexier VW/Audi marque.

Hands up, how many of you would have owned a Skoda, if they wer still owned by the original company, producing the exact same cars they are now making without the backing of VW? At current list price?

LIAR'S!!! :giggle:

How many of you make a point of mentioning the VW?udi connection, when discussing owning a Skoda. I do and I don't even like VW's,as a rule.

My own partner said to me why did you get a Skoda (For my drivng School) as no-one would want to drive it...

She admits she was wrong but I fully understand her concern Skoda's WERE rubbish and even in VRS form, can only be considered sexy by the depraved!

I was looking at a Superb, some years ago and thought "If that had the Audi bage on, it would sell shed-loads at that price but look at the logo, half the price!!

You would have been bonkers to pay over 20 grand on a Skud, even if it was a missile!

If Skodas became a similar price to the equivalent VW model then I think they'd lose out big time and I think there could be a chance that it would happen. Materials used are very similar but are Skodas built as well as VW? Witness the posts in the Yeti forum where people complain of squeaks, rattles and other problems on what I dont think is a low priced vehicle.

Repeat that in the RWD and others forum :giggle: I dare you!

Not since the late 80s , once VW had cottoned on to the fact that the middle classes were prepared to pay for the cachet of the VW and GTI branding. The same people wouldnt have been seen in a VW showroom 20 years before when the Beetle Type 3 and Type 4 were on sale. (unless they were buying a KG Cabrio for their daughters 17th birthday!!)

Polo is sold for high prices in turkey.

According to Volkswagen and Skoda Seat more attractive.

To get the Volkswagen Polo at least you have to pay 31.000 TL.

Fabia enough for 24.000TL.

p / q from the Fabia more advantageous terms.

The technical features three cars next to each other to make more sense to take what is cheapest.

Fabia performance in that test was very good.

VW used to = Peoples car , it now means not a peoples car as fewer can afford to pay the price.

VW had a reputation for reliability & exceptional build quality at which time they started to hike the prices, which have remained despite the reliability & quality now being average.

On the flip side Skoda was the complete opposite, some people wont touch a Skoda badged car with a 100ft pole, despite the reliability & quality being the same & in some cases better than VW.

Unless VW have a PR disaster the same way that Toyota did will people actually stop & think about the reputation that VW have.

On another note - There was an article on pistonheads about SEAT being told by VW to get profitable within 5 years otherwise they will drop them from the group, so look out for prices in the next few years to drift away from Skoda pricing.

I was expecting to open up a picture of a scrapyard, then :D

But , Hey, that backs up my point......... they are now affiliated with Renault so have their back up and brand name (Help or hinderance... YOU decide)!

I would repeat that quote anywhere........... In the day, I did indeed own a Lada estate (Pre-Riva -BA3 I seem to remember) Not a great car but reliable and started even when smothered in snow on a freezy cold day but with a back-up crank handle, if the battery went flat (Never did) Always got me home and heater output was fantastic. Everything worked despite being around 10 years old, based on an even older design. Never regreted the purchase in 4 years of ownership!

Now, would I have had the equivilant Skoda? Doubt it! Just too naff! Look back now and they seem better.... that is nostalgia and rose coloured specs, for you!

I had a Super Estelle 120LE 1982 X reg as my first, admittedly, awful car. Heavy steering (steering box rather than rack and pinion), terrible handling in the wet, it would understeer, grip, then flick the back end round (interesting!). However, I then bought an estelle 2 120L 1987 D reg. Massively improved, light and accurate steering, greatly improved handling. More economical, slightly more powerful, although 52BHP vs 49BHP doesn't count for much and gearbox was more precise. My final Estelle a 120L 5 1990 G reg had further improved the handling, gearbox, (the engine needed all the help it could get, to get the speed up and the handling to keep it there!) Reliability on the last two cars was exemplary. I bought a favorit after that which was faster but the ride and handling weren't a patch on the last estelle. I suppose the estelle had seen a lot of development in the handling dept, bringing in Porsche for the last of the 120s, the 130s and Rapid (similarities to the 911  ). I test drove a Lada in the late eighties and was surprised by how crude it was compared to my estelle (D reg)

I was parked neaxt to a new shape 10 reg polo today and although they have different badges and different body shape some of the features are the same, first thing i noticed where the door handles, exactly the same, gear knob looks similar to fl fabia, i'm sure the stereo looks similar also. about the same size too. same range of engines. To me the polo is a fabia for octavia money.

I agree

While the Polo and Ibiza have the latest platform, and each car has slightly different "perceived" characteristics ie the Polo is a bit plusher, the Seat a bit sportier, I wonder how much real world difference it makes to the ownership experience.

I guess it comes down to some specific preferences: if you want a bit more room, or DSG/1.2tsi combination, then go for the Fabia. If the Fabia's just not posh enough, decide if the price hike to a Polo buys you much more!

:) Have you driven or been driven in an Estelle or Rapid?
