Don't worry about it, It will never happen !

Europe has backed out of the Dab systems and in fact they cannot agree which system to use over here

Given that the Columbus unit is a VW RNS510 in disguise and VW offer DAB on both the Golf and Passat, I don't see why you couldn't source the "plug in" VW part and make that work.

As per the Golf, I assume it takes up one socket in the back of the head unit and therefore cannot be run alongside either the MDI or 6CD pack.

Am i right in saying if you get the TV Tuner plug in for the columbus you then nhave DAB Radio functionality as well? Hefty price tag on it though
