Performance, what to expect?

I honestly thought the better the driver, the faster the car.. :wonder:

imo alot of people have too much power for the actual skill they have on a car.... :smirk:

With a remap, decent suspension upgrades inc rear ARB, brakes and a decent exhaust the civic type r's, leon cupra 180's etc will struggle to pull away on our roads today, and they are what is called very quick cars. I know after going on the rebelmotorsport meets with civics and clio's etc.

Its on the track where you will watch cars you think your as quick as soon hand you down.

Most TDi's nowadays are quick, and keeping up with a 158 bhp 350 ft/lb insignia is pretty good for a standard furby considering its a 2.0ltr and has 8 more valves too. Where's Babs when you need him!!

was the discussion about if a remapped Fabia was faster than a diesel A5? didn't think so :)

Considering the OP wanted to know about relative performance figures then yes, I would say its about what the performance of a Fabia is like both standard and remapped.

If that was aimed at me, I drive for a living have spent a lot of time gaining driving qualifications member of IAM's yada yada yada so I would consider myself to be a better driver than some. I drive a lot more powerful cars at work so the Fabia isnt exactly stretching me.

I find it strange that you think a car will be just as quick with one person driving as it is with another. Kind of puts a kibosh on motorsport.

so it's just me that's not allowed to make comparisons then? so long as we're all on the same page

Holy crap people lets face for the cost of a fabia vrs its the best thing you can buy. Yes the ibiza might be slightly faster but some of interiors look like they've been designed by a 50 year old farmer who's brain cannot comprehend "excitment" Golfs are like clits every **** has one. Yes the pug 106 is faster 0-60 but god all its got is a go pedal and some flimsy exterior and weighs less than my right nut. I dont understand why there are people on this forum who are driving toyotas, hondas or whatever else the japs have mass produced in the past, prehaps they miss the skoda feel, plus no matter what car you have there is always going to be a faster car somwhere in the world (and yes there are road going cars that are faster than the buggatti)

The few times I have tried to 'keep up with something' usually resulted in going over the speed limit very quickly and by too much and them there speed traps are everywhere these days. Fab vRS in my opinion is a 'quicker car' - by that I mean that it is quicker than many (not all) cars on the road. In the 100's of times I have taken the outside overtake lane going up the A41 from the Kings Langley end I have never had something keep up with me even though some gave it a go - apart from a Subaru which just went as fast as it could off into the distance. So, whist the Fabia vRS is not the fastest thing on wheels, it is fast enough to be faster than the average car in my opinion.

Tailhappy couldnt agree more

Not aimed at anyone, just saying many of joe public has 300+bhp cars which to some extent all they do is show it off when its stationary.. If one honestly want to say yes, my car is faster, and yes I can driver better than you. Track day will settle these differences. B)

I agree with Tailhappy also, my vrs is lovely, it has good power for me to get swiftly from a-b. If I had a faster car I would not have thought my journey time would cut much at all, therefore vrs = fast.

I would have to agree with jlneonhug if youve been trained to higher standerd your going to be a better driver, take someone who has spent a lot of time on tracks, then say me who hasnt done a single session, even if i had a more powerful car than the other odds would suggest that the more experianced driver would win, well thats what i would think any way many would disagree and just look at the car and not think outside the box. Put it a simpler way, put lewis hamilton in a fabia vrs and me in a fabia vrs who do you think is going to win?

Edited by jamesrbeaumont

you would win, as you drive off into the distance Lewis Hamilton would still be trying to work out what the little 'on' lever down by the cubby box is for :-)

Lewis Hamilton wouldn't be seen dead in a vRS - he wouldn't be able to do donuts in Australia in a little diesel hatchback. :giggle:

Can the rest of you stop your willy waving and just enjoy your cars now please?????? :D:D:D

good point plus i am the better driver i did do the pass plus!!!!

And to the guy that said anything negative about the vRS must be from the "Used to own Skoda" crew, does that mean anything positive said about them means the "Can only afford a Skoda" crew?

Pathetic.

How many boxes of crisps can you get in the back of your Integra? Or do you also have a Toyota Hi-Ace van for trips to the cash and carry?

What a epic thread.

Not sure if those performance figures can be right, surely a standard fabia is a tad quicker from 50-70mph than 5.1 seconds? I mean, you trying to tell me I can get to 60mph quicker from a stand still than a fabia doing 50mph?

As for saying no way a 106 is quicker, errr I dont think the OP was talking on a straight piece of road at 40mph up to 80mph (aka fabia best and only real performance as standard/mapped/however much powr you want to throw at it without other bits)

One of the best drivers I know, with a mapped Ibiza running a few suspension upgrades struggled to keep up with a STANDARD 106 GTi down some twisties towards his own house, and he knew the road very, very well.

Same Ibiza with 170bhp with him at the wheel has hit 14.8 down the 1/4 and mullered several Clio Sports at Donington over the years...

So what im trying to say is, your all wrong. Ner ner

/me awaits "you dont own a vRS go away" replies, which are very helpful and of course on topic.

Simple facts are, remapped vRS = nippy at best. Nothing more, nothing less. Your brakes are still crap, your handling is rubbish, the weight sooo isnt on your side, your top speed will still be rubbish and you will struggle to ever launch it and get off the line. However, keep calling your cars quick because they keep up with 180bhp petrols from 40mph to 80mph guys!

P.S Im pro diesel yo :D

ALL? I've said in this thread that I don't think a vRS is quick.

If non vRS owners want to come on here and slate the car then fair play. However, I do find it a bit strange; I loathe Vauxhalls with a passion but I've never felt the need to go on a Vauxhall forum to express this.

Anyway, at least the vRS wasn't put together by people who only interrupt their siestas to torture animals.

Hook, line and sinker... ROLFcopter.

Ignore all facts, meanings and reasons and head straight for the slating. Predictable response from someone with a below average IQ perhaps?

"Your all wrong" emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Stones and glasshouses.

I remember when these forums were a nice place to be. It was good back then.

The Fabia vRS is a brilliant car. It feels fast, it makes you feel like a hero, it's even faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo for in-gear accelleration if you pick your statistic correctly.

A remapped vRS is the same, just more so.

For those of you that haven't read the forum rules (and that seems to be most folks), you are specifically NOT allowed to describe situations where IAM members race Audi S5's out of contra-flows up to illegal road speeds.

And before I get any grief about not driving a vRS. I do. And it feels much faster than my TDI170 TT Quattro.

I mean, you trying to tell me I can get to 60mph quicker from a stand still than a fabia doing 50mph?

Not my little Fabia Mr T Spark :giggle:

me awaits "you dont own a vRS go away"

YOU DON'T OWN A VRS GO AWAY!!!

This thread is officially epic! Please can a mod make it a sticky or summat so I can always come back and read it when I need a laugh?

A tip for all new Furby owners, specially if you are coming from petrol.

In std form provided you can keep the turbo just spinning in the gear you have,( this is at 2100 -2200 rpm) the torque will give you more that adequate acceleration to get you past slow moving traffic, and just keep you ahead of those behind trying to pass through you cos the traffic in front is too slow, however it will start to run out of puff as soon as you reach 4k RPM, at this point this is where petrol cars are starting to hit their peak power.

Depending on your remap ( if you have one ) the uplift of the torque & if your map will go past the unmapped 4k ' out of puff' barrier, will decide on how quick you can get away from the tailgater, & also provided you still keep the turbo spinning ( if you go below 2k RPM, you will get turbo lag ).

Dont even try to out accelerate a petrol from standstill, Diesels are not designed for this.

I regret selling my furby as the map suited my driving style, it was 300lb/ft torque, & would very easily get from slow motorway traffic 60 to past legal speed limit quicker than most cars. ( the ' out of puff barrier ' was @ 4.4K RPM just before red line )

Hope these tips help.

P.S. forget about this being a hot hatch, its a very capable every day use car that just happens to have a bit of torque to get you out of trouble.

Threads run its course, dont have the time to go through and pick out the meat at the moment so closed for the timebeing!
